D.E.M.O.N.S: Getting Summoned Weekly isn't so Bad

Chapter 2050 Targeted Poison

Chapter 2050: Chapter 2050 Targeted Poison

Kat —

Kat found she was right, and very annoyed about it too. If she simply sent a bit of demonic fire into the air and didn’t make any attempts to control it all, it rapidly spread through the mist freezing the poison and burning itself out, leaving an icy mist behind that was rapidly filled with the poison soon afterwards. Still, that didn’t change much of what they eventually decided to go with.

So here Kat was, carefully summoning the densest demonic fire she could control while it was split up into three. One for each slime. Kat had crushed about ten percent of her reserves into each of the balls of fire and she could feel it rattling against her control. Wisps of fire constantly escaped and froze the nearby air as her control faltered with the occasional stray thought. It was hard to keep it all so firmly in place. Thirty percent of her reserves seemed to be a pretty firm limit for the moment. Are you ready?

[Yes. Feel free to get started whenever.]

Kat nodded and then let herself go. Her wings stopped and she immediately plummeted to the ground. Keeping the fire in place was easy because Kat had measured things beforehand. She didn’t need to control the fireballs, instead she simply focused on keeping them exactly where they were in relation to her body, even as Kat fell down towards the earth. As they descended the pond and its guardians came into view. The slime was where Kat wanted it to be and her main target was about to be unhappy.

The full weight of Kat’s body slammed into the central flower, doing minimal damage unlike what they’d hopped for. Kat had tanked a puff of poison to the face and slammed into the thing shortly afterwards but it was slick and tough. Her feet simply slid off the side and into the main vat of poison, requiring Kat to summon her wings back up.

At the same time as this was happening, Lily was working with the demonic fire. Just before the fire had made contact with the slimes Lily had made her move. Six hands of shadow reached out, two for each slime, and six was easy enough to control. Lily tore into the slimes, pulling away pink gunk from the top of their ’heads’ to allow for Kat’s demonic fire to sink deeper in before making contact with anything.

As soon as the demonic fire reached into the small divot Lily had made, Kat released her hold on the fire. It immediately started to expand the sounds of cracking and freezing as the moving liquid-ish insides of the slimes started to freeze. They were freaking out and throwing pink gunk everywhere to try and get away from the fire. They were also running around a bit but the fire was already inside of them so it wasn’t being left behind. All three seemed more concerned with separating out as much mass as they could for the moment so that was fine.

With Kat’s initial plan to deal with the central bulb by crushing it under foot a clear failure, it was time for her plan B. Kat summoned her fans to her hand and started to slice into the thing as best she could. Which still wasn’t very well. The rubbery outside had far too much give to deal real damage with her chosen weapon. Shallow cuts did appear but most of the leaves were simply pushed away from her attempts to cut them down.

While Kat was trying that, and watching the slimes Lily had concentrated her many hands into two giant ones that now reached for the north western bulb. They dug into the poison mush, ready to rip it out, only for her mana to start rapidly burning away once it made contact with the poison lake. Grimacing, Lily forced herself through it, pouring more mana into the shadow hands to keep them stable as she dug.

The roots were mostly free flowing in the poison but there was a huge number of thick rope like roots spread throughout the pond, and into the soil at the bottom. Lily grimaced. Most roots simply spread out into the poison but some had entered the soil. Digging into the soil was going to take a huge amount of mana, and she’d already burned through fifteen percent of her reserves to get this far.

On the other hand, if she didn’t get everything there was no telling what was going to happen. Still, it was worth testing. Wrapping one shadow hand firmly around the thickest roots that entered into the dirt, and the second around the bulb at the time, Lily yanked the bulb from the pond, extending her shadow hand as far as it would go get the roots away from the poison. Lily was about to hurl it away when the pod burst open to reveal… four little gremlin things? [KAT!]

Kat glanced to the side as she watched the three things that were ugly goblin looking things that were entirely green with wrinkly skin everywhere and knives for fingernails all looking to impale the pair of them. Perhaps having Lily sit on her head was a needless risk? Even still, Kat ignored the bulb she was doing minimal damage to and refocused. The first goblin thing looked like it was trying to drill into her…

So she moved a bit to the side and sliced off its arms. Unlike the bulb Kat found her fans were more than sharp enough for this. A few more swings and a bit more flying saw the rest of them cut down as well. Their bodies dropping into the pond, going splat on the top and then sinking slowly afterwards. Kat stared down at the pond for a few seconds. *Do you think that’s going to be a problem?*

[Should I fish them out?]

*Hmmm… it’s going to cost you a lot of mana…*

[We’ll keep it in mind if they sprout up as more buds or something. They did seem a bit weak but they might’ve just been a simple last line of defence.]

*Maybe. Though question, I think if I’m going to pull the roots out from this thing I’m going to need to get under the poison. Even then, depending on how heavy it is I’m not sure I can fly with it so it’d be very awkward.*

[I might be able to do it but mana is already being burned away quickly with the concentrated poison here. If you don’t mind, just focus on defending me while I go for the other bulbs. I can do this faster I’m sure.]

*On it. You’re in charge then.*

Kat focused on their surroundings as Lily got to work pulling out the next bulb. She knew what needed to be done now and the slimes were still freaking out. One was left mostly as a statue, but it was smaller then it should be, missing a lot of mass. Another was filled with frozen patches that were still being moved inside of it. Kat could vaguely feel that her demonic fire was still burning away at that one. The final bit of slime was either dead or gone. It looked to be entirely ice now and it wasn’t moving at all, but it seemed a bit hollow compared to the others. Kat could see through parts of it.

While Kat had been worrying about the slimes, Lily had already ripped another bud from the ground. This time there were only two goblin monster things that shot out of it, and they were just as easily dispatched. Kat was rather happy to have a chance to get her demonic energy back before the slimes made some aggressive moves.

Two more bulbs were ripped up in quick succession, but Kat could tell Lily was getting tired. Every time she dipped her shadow hands into the poison more and more mana was getting ripped from her. It seemed to come with a big chunk of mental fatigue as well, but Lily wasn’t stopping just yet. Even with her breathing turning heavy, Lily was ready to get the job done.

Kat readied herself. The one in the centre was the only one left. It was slightly larger then the others and if some boss was about to jump out this would be it. Yet, when Lily ripped it to pieces in the same way as she’d done to the others, nothing unique happened. It had five goblin minions launch out at her, but at this point that was nothing. Kat took care of two of them and Lily killed the other three.

“Alright, you rest up, let me start to freeze this poison,” said Kat as she let herself dip into the poison somewhat, ready to react if something reached up and grabbed her. When nothing did, Kat started to release demonic fire from her feat. Pouring it into the lake and encouraging it to spread to the bottom. That would help, as if the ice froze from the bottom up she could add more demonic power as necessary.
