Chapter 187: Careful Without Being Boring
Chapter 187: Careful Without Being Boring
’Who are those people?’
Cillian continued to ponder inwardly, trying to think about the Death Flags that had appeared from his third fight onward. It was thanks to his Nearby Flag Presence that he was able to sense those flags even while he was fighting his current opponents.
But because his Nearby Flag Presence couldn’t reveal their names, Cillian merely narrowed his eyes at them, trying to provoke them into revealing themselves from time to time. He wanted to see if they would move and fight him.
Yet they merely watched his movements without doing anything.
The reason he didn’t stop fighting was for the same reason.
He wanted to know why they would remain there watching him, which was why he tried to stare at them for quite some time during the last fight before leaving to see if they would follow him. Instead, they just left as well, leaving Cillian disappointed.
Was he clueless about the identity of those people?
’It’s those bastards that visited Viola, isn’t it?’
Cillian wasn’t clueless when it came to figuring out which of the people with Death Flags were watching him, since as far as he knew, there were only nine people who had shown those kinds of flags recently.
One was Fergus, whose flag continued to peek through his Flag Mark screen. The second was Darwin. Next were the seven people who had come to see Viola, led by the man known as Kairus. This was what he had heard from Dena, the first thing she had said when they met back at the party.
’Honestly, it was only that guy who gave me the creeps. The others were just... hmm, extras with Death Flags?’
Still, Cillian knew that he couldn’t underestimate them, especially since their flags were at the highest level of Possibility Flag that could potentially threaten his life. Even for someone like him who wanted to have fun, he had to tread carefully.
’Hahh... It’s really hard to do things like this. Like, what do you mean I have to be careful without being boring?’
When that thought came to his mind, Cillian just chuckled, which made the people behind him stare at him blankly.
"Have you lost your mind?"
Lastly, the last person who had shown him a recent Death Flag had finally spoken.
Darwin voiced the very same complaint that had been forming in Phillip and Vin’s minds. They never had the courage to say it to him since he was Cillian, but Darwin was different.
"You’re ruining it."
Cillian glanced behind him and understood the underlying meaning of what Darwin was trying to say before turning around and speaking honestly.
"I know I was reckless."
Darwin’s face twisted.
’Dang, you don’t need to make that kind of face.’
If there was one thing Cillian could tell from the face Darwin was making, it was that he was pretty pissed at Cillian’s way of doing things. His seaweed-like hair was tied in the back, so it was clear what kind of expression he was making, something he hadn’t shown earlier since he had been focused on guarding Cillian.
And he finally let it out once they were alone back in the dormitory hallways.
Cillian let out a sigh.
"I know we have a deal, but you don’t need to worry about me messing with your plans. In fact, this is an opportunity I made for you."
If there was a perfect person to use right at this moment, Cillian knew it was Darwin, especially after learning about his circumstances when they had talked back in the Viola.
-’ I’m dying. You can use me as much as you want.’
That’s what Darwin had said to him, among other things he had revealed right after they decided to talk privately with each other. He had been informed about the circumstances that had happened in Viola through Finn and had come to know about the changes happening in this world through him.
It was because he was determined to take revenge.
-’ Let me fight the Shepherds.’
Cillian didn’t know why Darwin was dying or what had caused it, nor why he wasn’t curing himself and continuing his mission without seeking help, but he simply pitied him.
Because he knew that this previous principal of his was blaming himself for the deaths of the students who had trusted him to protect them.
’And I needed those kinds of people.’
He really was just planning on roaming around the entirety of Xesie for the next few days to understand this place, but now he had to move his plans forward, making way for Darwin to start his own machinations.
Because of his recklessness, Cillian had allowed Darwin to do his own thing.
"I’ll be staying in my room until the orientation starts in a few days. You can handle yourself, right?"
"Yes."
Darwin answered after a while of thinking, when he realized what Cillian was doing, before turning around and conjuring his own invisibility spell. He then added another reply.
"Sorry for troubling you."
"You don’t need to mention it."
Then, Darwin was gone, leaving only the confused duo, who had no idea what they had been talking about.
Eventually, it was Vin who broke the silence after seeing that Cillian looked like he wasn’t planning on leaving the dormitory rooms, just as he had said.
"Are you going to be lazing around?"
"No, actually, I have something else to do."
There was a reason why Cillian would remain passive until the orientation day, which marked the first day of the Academy’s return. Until then, he’d gear himself up and proceed with accomplishing his plan.
’It’s time for me to attain Circle One Sorcery.’
He had been dying to see how much he had improved in terms of his progression, and it showed in how he had handled the fight earlier using only spells.
’I think I can do it.’
That’s why Cillian would stay cooped up in his room for the next few days.
And that’s what he did.
Four days passed in the blink of an eye as Cillian remained seated in his chair, looking at himself in the mirror while Vin and Phillip were right beside him.
"Are you ready, Cillian?"
Vin asked, slightly nervous.
If Cillian hadn’t asked them to watch him perform the Circle Formation, they would’ve left already.
"Of course. Besides, why the heck are you much more nervous than me? It’s not the same as acquiring a Piece."
Cillian paused.
"But I’m ready."
Today, Cillian would become a Circle One Sorcerer.
