Death Flag System: I Became An Extra From The Author Who Killed Me!

Chapter 185: Making A Statement

Chapter 185: Making A Statement

Another major change had been implemented by the Academy, which was the eradication of Merit Points. Why? Because of another change where students were now allowed to roam outside the school premises. They deemed Merit Points pretty useless at that point because of it, and they were somehow right.

That’s why nobles and people of higher status outside the Academy were now able to flaunt their wealth as much as they wanted.

Cillian didn’t have this in mind.

What he had in mind was the gold coins that would come pouring into his budget while keeping himself in check from trying to beat the shit out of this arrogant young master.

’Pent-up stress is piling up. Gotta let loose.’

He still couldn’t forget about the preparations he had made in the Underworld that he wasn’t able to do. They were still lingering at the back of his mind, serving as a reminder that his plans would keep being thwarted because of players operating on a higher field.

Did he overlook it just because the other families were ’showing’ that they weren’t willing to support Viola, thinking that he could control it easily? Part of it played a role, but it’s mostly because he wasn’t part of the same playing field as them.

He wasn’t aware of how they operate.

Nothing was easy.

"Hey, do you even have money to put a wager on this duel? You can take out a loan—"

Tired of hearing this guy act like a noble and just wanting to get on with it, Cillian used his money and presented a pouch containing a hundred gold coins before placing it on the ground. There was also a designated space for them to use after the two had accepted the duel.

Cillian’s action amused Noah. He had thought Cillian was merely chickening out when he suddenly told him to push the wager to a hundred coins. But now that he was seeing it for himself, Cillian, a recent hero from Viola who had made a name for himself, at least in that rundown place, clearly had some guts.

’Heh, it was all rumors anyway. A kid? The same age as us? There’s no way he’s strong enough to fight those... Shepherds.’

Being a hero was what almost everyone had heard about him. Cillian still hid the fact that he was a Ruiner, even though his enemies mostly knew what kind of power he wielded.

But that couldn’t be said for the common folk, such as this oblivious guy.

Eventually, people started to surround the first-ever duel that was about to happen at this Academy, even before its orientation day.

"You remember the rules of the duel, right, Cillian Sparrow?"

Cillian stared at him, keeping his gaze locked on the arrogant young master.

"Shut up, please. You’re so fucking noisy. I can read."

Cillian had already taken the rules and whatnot into account.

It was simple.

As long as either side declared surrender, the duel would not end.

And just as with its ending, the instant someone made the first attack, such as initiating the casting of a spell, that would mark the start of the duel.

Any form of attack would do.

That’s why, even without a supervisor, duels could be held. As long as they didn’t result in the death of a student, it should be fine.

Noah didn’t wait long. He was the first to initiate an attack as he formed hand signs, with a Circle appearing in the air.

On the other hand, Cillian began to manifest a simple Fireball, not making any hand signs but relying on pure magic, something he uses from time to time.

But instead of letting it linger like what Noah was just doing, Cillian shot it toward his opponent. He wanted to disrupt his spellcasting, even if only for a few seconds.

Whoosh—!

Noah had to dodge, but because he was one of the elites of the Xesie Family, on the verge of breaking through to become a Two-Circle Sorcerer, it wasn’t hard for him to do so without disrupting the flow of his mana circulation.

’!’

However, Noah grew alarmed.

He thought Cillian was merely buying time so that he could get better timing with his spell, as it looked like Cillian was worried about his opponent’s casting time.

He also realized that it was just a Fireball, the most basic type of spell when it came to fire magic. Sorcery and magic could both conjure a simple spell like that.

Noah was even confident that he could do it himself, and a more powerful one at that.

That’s why his mind was in turmoil.

’Why are you running toward me?!’

A sorcerer was supposed to be someone who used their spells from afar. They weren’t supposed to be people who barged their way forward.

’It’s your fault if you get hit!’

Whatever Cillian was doing, Noah knew it was suicide.

He let out a smile and pointed his hand toward Cillian.

"Red Showers!"

Miniature red flames rained down toward Cillian. It was an upgraded version of Fireball, but instead of one, multiple balls of fire descended toward the ground, targeting Cillian.

"Gale."

Cillian watched the red balls of flame coming toward him before a wind spell enveloped his feet, allowing him to dodge the dozen fireballs.

Barely, he managed to dodge them. But he dodged them anyway without getting injured.

For a few seconds, that was the only thing Cillian did before he got up close to the shocked Noah.

"You’re fast—"

Before Noah could even manage to spew out the words he wanted to say, Cillian let out a deranged smile before punching Noah in the throat ever so slightly.

It wasn’t the kind of punch that would cause serious injury, but it was enough to shut the mouth of this arrogant noble.

"Khuk!"

Cillian then pushed Noah down onto the ground before standing over him and landing one clean punch on the noble’s face.

It packed a punch.

Noah wanted to create a spell using simple magic, desperate enough to abandon the sorcery they were taught at the Academy. However, Cillian broke his hand by targeting his wrist.

"Mmph!"

He let out a muffled scream as he tried to make any kind of sound, but even his mouth was covered by Cillian’s hand.

"Boring."

Cillian threw another punch.

"All talk and this."

Then, another.

"Hey... hey... hey!"

Cillian landed dozens more of the same strikes while keeping the same force, which didn’t lessen even for a moment.

Noah’s two guards were barely able to maintain their composure as they watched their employer being destroyed without being able to put up a fight.

Was it even a fight to begin with?

No. From the start, Cillian wasn’t paying attention to Noah at all. They saw this kid from Viola watching them as if they were the threat and not Noah.

He was worried about them making a move.

However, since they were nothing more than mere guards, they couldn’t intervene in the duel no matter what unless the three minutes were up.

But even if they did intervene, how were they supposed to fight Cillian’s guard, who had been watching them from the start?

’What the hell are these people? Are they crazy?’

One of Noah’s guards mused inwardly while watching the situation ahead. However, all the noise in his head soon came to a halt when he saw Cillian stand up.

The faces of Noah’s guards brightened, thinking it was finally over, but they were wrong.

Tak—!

Cillian.

He... started kicking Noah.

"Hey!"

He kicked and punched him at the same time.

He was making sure that Noah never showed any signs of surrendering, no matter what.

’Watch me, you fuckers. I will bully the shit out of this guy.’

Right now, he had to make a statement to these people.

So that the same situation wouldn’t happen again.
