Death... and me

Chapter 3764: Shadow Kid

Chapter 3764: Shadow Kid

[Roan!] Sister Orb called him again. It wasn’t the time to think about it. He either goes for the black construction or turns around and leaves that place immediately. Otherwise, he would have to destroy his body soon.

Roan wasn’t the type to back down, he had never been. He flashed like a streak of White Light, pushing all the lower-level shadows away while also dodging as many of the higher-level ones as possible.

The shadow calling him seemed to be blended with the black wall, its body poking out. However, when Roan got close, the shadow spoke to him again. ’Just go through!’ Then, the shadow retreated.

Roan narrowed his eyes but didn’t hold back. He immediately smashed into the wall where the shadow disappeared... or so he thought he would. Instead, he passed through it. The weird thing was that Roan knew it wasn’t an illusion. It was more like the wall changed shape as he passed through it.

Roan then landed in a tunnel that seemed to be pulsating with a weird energy. Of course, he didn’t pay attention to that right now. Instead, he looked at the shadow being that told him about this entrance. It was small, like a child. Checking behind with his Divine Sense, Roan also noticed that none of the shadows outside followed him. From the looks of it, the shadows outside couldn’t enter this place, or maybe they didn’t even know they could.

Roan returned his attention ahead, and for the first time since he arrived behind the fabric of space, he brought out his Elemental Intent Scythes, one of them pointing at the shadow as arcs of Red Lightning ran through it. "Who are you? Are you one of those agglomerations of emotions?"

The shadow took a few steps back, and now Roan could see it better. It wasn’t just small like a kid... it did look like one too.

*Smack!*

Yet, at that moment, someone slapped the back of his head. It was Rean who immediately came out with him. "Stop scaring the kid!"

A vein popped out on Roan’s forehead as he did his best not to simply cut Rean into ten thousand pieces right there and then. ’Why did you come out? Now you can’t return to the Dimensional Realm either!’

Rean completely ignored him, though. "Hey, thank you for helping my brother. How did you know he was out there?"

The kid shadow dropped his head slightly. "I... I could feel his soul..."

Rean smiled, approaching more, but stopped a meter from the shadow kid, crouching down to the shadow kid’s size. "So that’s how you found him! You did a very good job, friend." Rean then extended his hand. "Come here, just don’t try to take my soul. Both my brother and I have a magical protection that impedes our souls from being harmed."

The kid quickly shook his head. "I... I don’t want anyone’s soul!"

Rean still smiled, waiting for the kid to decide. Yet, the kid looked behind Rean, and saw the extremely dark expression on Roan’s face, making it hard for the shadow kid to step forward.

Rean noticed that, looking back at Roan in the next second. "Hey, Lucifer, can you put those dangerous things away and step back? Preferable, smash that ugly face on the wall too so you won’t scare the kid."

Roan’s mouth twitched. "You do know both you and I have the same face, right?"

Rean shrugged. "As if! Even as twins, I’m obviously countless times more handsome. I will never admit I look like you."

Roan truly wondered how Rean’s mind worked sometimes. Even to this day, he couldn’t figure it out. "Whatever. If something happens, that’s your problem." He then turned around, although his Divine Sense was still spread, checking every millimeter of the area. Too bad his Divine Sense was even more impaired in this place. It simply couldn’t pass through these black walls that pulsated nonstop.

Rean turned his attention back to the shadow kid. "The big bad idiot won’t do anything, trust me. If he tries something, I will smack his butt. No, even better, I will hold him, and you will smack his butt instead. How about that?"

The shadow kid couldn’t help but giggle a little. Finally, he stepped forward, touching Rean’s hand. He did not try to enter Rean’s body, though. His touch was physical, just like when the shadows outside noticed their targets’ hostility and attacked normally. "Seems fun."

Rean nodded, getting up while holding the kid’s hand. "Of course it is fun! And, better than that, he deserves it!"

Then, Rean changed the topic. "Alright, let’s start again. I’m Rean, and my big bad brother over there is Roan. What’s your name, kid?"

The shadow kid shook his head in response. "I don’t think I have a name..."

Rean pondered a bit, coming up with something. "How about Shad? Get it? You look like a shadow, so we can go simple and just use Shad."

Roan put his Elemental Intent Scythes away, speaking the obvious. "He doesn’t look like a fish."

Rean was taken aback. "Is there a fish called Shad?"

Roan didn’t even bother answering that question. "Kid, just select a name for yourself. Otherwise, this idiot will never stop coming up with bullshit names."

Seeing that Roan was a little more ’approachable’ now, the shadow kid agreed, thinking about a name for a moment. "Xian. Xian is good."

Rean had no complaints. "Then Xian it shall be."

Roan passed by Rean and Xian. But, at the same time, he spoke with Rean through their Soul Connection. ’This shadow kid’s strength is definitely at the Space-Time Realm or something equivalent.’

Rean noticed that. ’Yes, but his mind is truly that of a kid. Something is bothering me about him. Aren’t all shadows manifestations of the evil desires of those outside the fabric of space? Yet, I can’t feel the least bit of evil intentions coming from him. Also, the reason I knew he was truly just like a kid was because his soul has the same kind of properties as a young soul from a newborn.’

Roan nodded slightly. When it came to souls, Rean was indeed the best due to his Light Element. Even Roan, who was a Death Spirit in his past life, wasn’t at the same level anymore in that regard. ’You can think about it later. Just don’t drop your guard. We don’t know what this place is, let alone this kid... if it is a kid at all.’
