Death... and me

Chapter 3623: A Gap

Chapter 3623: A Gap

No one moved anymore. This is the easy part? One of them was almost killed just now, and that root didn’t even appear in their Divine Sense. The same was true for the fire laws Granfil spread as a countermeasure. Even those didn’t seem useful to him, and he was hit.

"I told you," Consedu insisted, "seven of us died back then, and we got nowhere near crossing the killing roots area. But I had to bring you here regardless. After all, you wouldn’t really understand the difficult of this task without seeing it by yourselves. Most of you were probably full of confidence and thinking that if it was you, you would have managed to cross, right?"

Several eyes turned away, finding it hard to meet Consedu’s gaze. He was right; most of them simply thought they had what it takes to cross, and the others from Consedu’s old group were just too weak. That thought has now disappeared from their minds. They have no confidence whatsoever they could survive if they truly entered that patch of living killing roots.

Consedu then began to walk away from that area. "Anyway, this is the crossing point, and you can give it a try if you wish. I’m absolutely not getting inside that place."

Werkel was the first one to admit defeat before trying. "I don’t know about you, but I’m not about to suicide myself. The only way I can make use of a Celestial Realm Breakthrough is if I’m alive to achieve it. Consedu, you are going to look for the Light Green Cocoon, right? I’m going with you."

Consedu nodded, already expecting that. "Yes, that’s the plan."

The others looked at each other, and seeing Werkel and Consedu moving away, they finally gave up and quickly followed those two. No one dared to risk entering the killing roots area anymore.

’What about us?’ Rean asked. The roots looked extremely fast and powerful in the eyes of the others, but they weren’t all that incredible for the twins’ group.

Still, Roan didn’t think it was worth the risk. ’Forget it. What we saw were just some simple roots, not the real deal. You heard the guy; everything will come at us later, including these giant roots. Let’s give Consedu’s method a try first. We might find those Light Green Cocoons.’

Everyone nodded, no one against Roan’s words.

Grititi didn’t hear any of it, though. He just received Royer’s orders that they wouldn’t try to enter either. "This time, I agree that is the best course of action."

Their group also caught up to Consedu and the others, and they began to look for the Light Green Cocoon from there, going backwards. It goes without saying that the first one they found after that was a Dark Green one, though.

Everyone simply passed by it, ignoring the Cocoon. Yet, when the twins’ group looked back, they noticed Rifindio had stopped in front of it. "What are you looking at?"

Rifindio narrowed his eyes. The Cocoon pulsed as it always did, but he still felt like he was hearing it. "It is calling me..."

Consedu and the others also noticed that the twins’ group stopped in front of the Dark Green Cocoon, but they ignored it and continued moving away. Everyone tried many things and failed to destroy the Dark Green Cocoons, so they doubted the twins’ group could do anything, either. Well, even the twins didn’t have any ideas. They only stopped because Rifindio did.

Roan thought about it for a moment and nodded. "It’s not like we have anything to lose. If you want to try something, go ahead and give it a shot."

"Try something?" Rifindio bitterly smiled. "What exactly should I try? I’m not even sure why I can hear them."

Rean shrugged. "Well, then let’s just ignore it. Let’s go, Consedu and the others are not going to wait for us."

They nodded, starting to walk away from the Cocoon.

Just as Rifindio was about to follow them, the Dark Green Cocoon pulsed once more. This time, however, a gap appeared near Rifindio, and a root shot from inside, catching Rifindio with his guard down.

"Ah!"

Not even the twins’ were fast enough to prevent that. Rifindio was grabbed by that root, pulling him inside the Dark Green Cocoon in the next instant. Rean, Roan, Celis, and Kentucky, the four of them, acted at the same time, trying to rescue Rifindio.

*Zup!*

*Bang!*

*Boom!*

They all attacked simultaneously, trying to hit the Cocoon’s oppening before it could take Rifindio for real. Too bad that the Cocoon was faster than them. Its shell closed just as the twins’ group’s attack arrived and completely blocked the attacks.

"Just what was that?!" Rean couldn’t help but ask. None of the Dark Green Cocoons had acted like that before.

"How the hell would I know?" Roan didn’t have an answer. "The only thing I’m certain is that Rifindio definitely wasn’t lying about this thing trying to talk to him. However..."

There was something new in the air, something only the four of them could feel. "Celestial Laws..."

After the Dark Green Cocoon opened, the Celestial Laws in their souls stirred, reacting to it.

"What?!" Royer, who hadn’t done anything so far, was taken aback. "What Celestial Laws?"

The twins’ group looked at him but shook their heads. Truth be told, Celestial Laws have been present ever since the twins’ group entered this Golden Palace. It’s just that their presence was so small that they weren’t even worth mentioning. Rean, Roan, Kentucky, and Celis couldn’t use those sparse, almost inexistent Celestial Laws either.

This time, it was different. The concentration of Celestial Laws they felt from inside the Dark Green Cocoon was really high. They couldn’t identify what kind of Celestial Laws they were, though. They definitely weren’t Wood, Absorption, Light, or Dark. It was some other law, and that might be the reason Rifindio was taken.

Still, that felt weird. They looked at Grititi, confused. Isn’t Grititi a Camazotz Bat as well? Then why hasn’t he heard anything? "Grititi, can you hear this Cocoon?"

Grititi was even more confused. "Hear it? I just thought that companion of yours was going crazy. Why are you even asking me that?"

Of course, Grititi still didn’t know Rifindio was actually a Camazotz Bat, just like himself. He still thinks Rifindio’s name is Zirconio, which was the alias Rifindio had been using so far.
