Dark Magus Returns

Chapter 1622: The Great Sacrafice

Chapter 1622: The Great Sacrafice

It was fair to say that Raze was struggling quite a bit with his fight against Gizin. His attacks were performing noticeably weaker than his opponent’s, and even when he relied on the advantage of his superior speed, nothing he did seemed to have any real effect. Every swing, every technique, every attempt to pierce through Gizin’s body ended with the same result, his opponent standing there completely unaffected.

As Raze continued to use the abyssal strike formation, he was doing everything he could think of to try and take out Gizin. For one, he had altered the formation so that his Abyssal Strike now mixed together with his dark magic. Whenever he ran through the open space, a trail of darkness remained behind him, lingering in the air like a midnight scar carved across the battlefield. He quickly moved through the rubble-filled area, circling Gizin, observing, trying to understand.

Raze appeared right in front of Gizin, feet skidding against the broken stone. He gathered both his qi and his dark magic behind the hilt of his weapon, tightening every muscle as he thrust it forward with everything he had. The void pulse strike shot through the space between them, allowing the sword to pass directly through the center of Gizin’s torso, but all it did was ripple the glowing light slightly. His body stayed whole, almost like Raze was fighting against a phantom made of pure energy.

“You know,” Gizin said, calm as ever, “I always thought if the two of us were friends, we would get along quite well.” His smile widened as his voice echoed off the fractured surfaces around them. “I had heard that you were a greater mind than Ibarin, and it seems that was true.”

He twirled his cane between his fingers, like this was nothing more than a casual chat.

“You know, when I got to know your wife a bit more, she would talk about your greatness as well. I can see what you’re trying to do. Your technique casts dark magic into the entire area. If you disperse the energy from my body into smaller particles, then the dark magic could theoretically get rid of it.”

His smile faded, replaced by a mocking tilt of the head.

“But did you really think things would be that easy?”

A golden ball of energy appeared above Gizin’s shoulder before exploding forward. It blasted Raze directly, slamming into his body and pushing him back several meters. Raze dug his heels into the ground and, with quick reflexes, planted his sword between himself and the attack. Swinging sharply, he managed to dissipate much of the energy before it could crush him.

“Hm? That’s odd,” Gizin said with genuine curiosity. “It seems that some of my attack’s energy has dispersed as well. That should have hurt you more… Did the light magic disappear?”

His eyes narrowed, studying Raze.

And that was when he noticed it.

The clothing around Raze had changed. He was wearing a blazer-like garment that resembled those of high-class mages. However, it extended past his waist, the back flowing like a large floating robe. The fabric swirled in the energy-filled air, pulsating faintly.

Gizin could feel its presence, its power.

“Haha. Typical!” he said with a hint of delight. “It seems you knew it would be a tall and mighty task to fight against the Grand Magus, so you prepared. But you seem to have taken a shortcut there, my friend!”

Around Gizin, several orbs of golden energy floated like miniature suns. Each one shot forward, targeting Raze from different angles. As they neared him, the beams disintegrated slightly, weakening, giving Raze the opportunity to swat them away with swift swings of his sword. Since the dusk wing formation wasn’t working properly, Raze had decided to dismiss it, instead conserving his energy as he used minimal movement to block each incoming shot.

“I was right,” Gizin said. “That blazer of yours seems to be doing quite a lot of protecting. It must be quite the excellent item. Did you get it from one of my companies?”

Raze gritted his teeth and clenched his fist around his sword. He swung downward again, blocking another golden beam. This time he overexerted his strength, qi bursting from his blade and destroying a large section of the already cracked ground beneath him.

“This was made by Sabrina!” Raze shouted back. “It was her anniversary gift that she made while working for you!”

He darted forward, swinging his sword again. He allowed himself to be struck by the golden beam on his shoulder. The force nudged him back slightly but didn’t cause severe damage. Ignoring it, he pushed forward and unleashed a long line of dark magic mixed with qi that spread across the field. When it reached Gizin, the Grand Magus swung his cane with casual ease, breaking straight through the attack and dispersing it instantly.

“Oh, I see,” Gizin replied. “But it seems to be infused with dark magic, and everyone knows that items made with dark magic must be cursed. You’re sacrificing a lot to get where you are, Raze… It would have been a lot easier to just sacrifice the others around you.”

Gizin lifted his cane high above his head. Golden energy swirled around it, condensing tightly until it resembled a luminous version of the eclipse strike that Raze would perform.

He swung downward.

The entire area in front of him was swept by a massive wave of golden energy, crashing toward Raze like a divine tidal wave.

Raze knew instantly that it was mixed with divine qi, that if he took it head-on, it could kill him or worse.

He had no choice.

Raze jumped through the attack. His cloak flared out behind him, expanding rapidly. It grew wider, denser, almost like a living blanket made of shadow. As the wave reached him, the cloak swallowed the golden energy whole. It wrapped around the attack like a hungry void, consuming every trace of it until it disappeared entirely.

The blazer-like cloak then shrank back down to its original size, settling behind him once more as Raze landed on the ground.

He glared at Gizin, eyes burning with fury.

“I will sacrifice everything to get rid of you!” Raze shouted.
