Chapter 381 - 240: Nervous Robert
Chapter 381: Chapter 240: Nervous Robert
The moment its antennae broke, the Lobster flicked its tail, shooting forward more than a meter along the floor. It quickly flicked its tail a second time with incredible speed. It looked like it was trying to escape to a safe distance before finding a new hiding spot.
But unfortunately, the ship’s cabin was full of mechanical parts and the terrain was complex. There was simply not enough space for it to maneuver.
Just as it brought its tail down for the second time, its back hit a metal part with a CLANG, stirring up a cloud of marine dust.
Lin Chen reacted just as quickly, following right behind it. Using his reach advantage, he grabbed its entire body in a death grip, pushed off a part with his left hand, and deftly backed out of the hole.
After stuffing the Lobster into the fish basket, he surfaced for a breath of air and checked the time.
’Twenty minutes. I can dive for another twenty minutes at most before I have to head back. I can’t stay in the sea for too long.’
This haul far exceeded his expectations. Even if he found nothing else, just the one Lobster and one Queen Phoenix Conch would have been a great harvest. Not to mention, he had also gotten his hands on so many useful modern materials.
With the rubber rings, he could make an Ejected Harpoon and accurately hit any target within his line of sight.
He could also make a slingshot. While he couldn’t hunt birds with it, taking down a Green Iguana would be no problem.
He could even make a bow and arrows!
However, in Panama, where hunting was prohibited, he felt there was probably no need to make a bow. There was nothing to shoot anyway.
「Twenty minutes later.」
When he broke the surface for the last time, he was holding a palm-sized octopus.
He’d learned his lesson this time. He didn’t point its mouth toward himself, letting it spray all its ink in the sea before putting it in the fish basket.
He wound the bamboo-strip rope around a post, letting the fish basket hang half-submerged at the rear of the raft. This would keep the seafood alive and also prevent the rope from getting too long and snagging on underwater reefs during the return trip.
On the way back to the shelter, he felt his heart beating unusually fast, a constant THUMP THUMP THUMP pounding in his ears.
He never would have imagined that a sunken yacht was hidden beneath this seemingly calm stretch of sea. His camera had definitely recorded the entire process. He wondered if it would cause a massive stir online.
However, he didn’t hold out much hope of finding the victims’ families or anyone related to the yacht. This was Central America, after all, and it was adjacent to the chaotic Darien Rift. God knows how many people went missing here each year.
He just hoped this discovery wouldn’t affect the show’s progress or his own safety.
...
"Boss! Boss!"
"Wake up!!"
Robert, who had been sound asleep, was startled awake by violent shaking. His eyes still closed, he frowned and said impatiently, "If this isn’t important, I swear I’ll beat the shit out of you. You believe me?"
"Lin discovered a sunken yacht while he was diving!"
"Dammit, it’s just a yacht. You woke me up for someth—... what did you say?"
Robert cracked his eyes open a sliver and mumbled blankly, "You’re saying there’s a yacht on the seabed?"
"That’s right. And it looks very new. The hull is barely covered with algae or shellfish, so it most likely sank within the last six months."
Six months?
Hearing that, Robert was instantly wide awake.
"What’s the cause of the sinking?"
"Judging from the footage Lin shot, it was caused by a large hole in the bottom of the boat. As for whether it was from a mechanical parts explosion, a fuel tank explosion, a bombing, or some other reason... we can’t tell from the video alone, and we don’t have the personnel to make that kind of assessment."
"Hiss..."
Robert sucked in a sharp breath and slapped his forehead.
"Dammit, what kind of crazy luck does this kid have? Back in Alaska, I already felt his luck was uncanny. And now look, he’s dug up a potential attack."
The staff member was very clear: an attack was a possibility. Add to that the countless criminals lurking in the Dalian Rift Forest to the southeast... heaven knows if this is connected to them.
"No, this has escalated to a national level. It’s not something our production team can handle. I need to make a call and notify the forestry bureau."
He couldn’t help but feel a little relieved that he had cut off the contestants’ ability to view the livestream comments two days ago. Otherwise, if this news were spread by the audience, it could very well cause a panic among the contestants.
And that would be the best-case scenario. The real fear was that some of the bolder ones would rush into the sea to try and find the yacht’s wreckage. Now *that* would be a real mess.
The ones who’ve survived this long are definitely people with extensive wilderness survival experience. People like that aren’t timid. Most of them have an adventurous spirit. After all, sometimes in the wild, it’s hard to survive if you don’t take a gamble.
After watching the footage, he silently walked outside and picked up the satellite phone.
"Hello, it’s me, Robert."
"One of our contestants found a sunken yacht on the seabed not far from the coastline. It looks very new, probably sank within the last six months. And there’s a large hole in the hull. I suspect this isn’t an ordinary incident."
"Yes, there’s video. I’ll send it over in a bit... What? You can’t look at it until you get to work in the morning?"
"Dammit! What if this was the work of terrorists? What if the people hijacked were international tourists? Every minute of delay could lead to a tragedy!"
The other end of the line was silent for a moment before a soft voice drifted back.
"Please calm down, Mr. Robert. You said it yourself, didn’t you? It’s been several months since the yacht sank. If anyone on board is still alive, another day or two won’t make a difference."
