Cooking Gourmet Meals in the Apocalypse

Chapter 97 - 94: Useful

Chapter 97: Chapter 94: Useful

"How dare you two say anything? Aren’t you the ones who dragged me into this mess?" Chen Xing shot them a look.

It sounded like a complaint, but she truly didn’t care whether Miss Situ hated her or not.

She was leaving tomorrow morning anyway, so it didn’t matter if she made an enemy.

She just wanted these two to remember that they owed her one.

After all, Song Yiguo was quite useful.

"Heh heh!" Yan Junxi, looking uncharacteristically guilty, offered a placating smile. "You’re the big boss here. Only you would dare to provoke her. If I did it, I’d end up with my head and body in separate places. What then?" Despite his words, he absolutely would dare to provoke her.

"Come to my place," Song Yiguo invited.

After all, no one would dare to just barge into General Song’s home.

Chen Xing: "..."

Yan Junxi: "..."

Seeing them both staring at him, Song Yiguo returned their gaze with his own: "..."

"What’s wrong? She wouldn’t actually go to my house to hurt you, would she?"

Even the unflappable Chen Xing was rendered speechless by him.

’If I go to his house, the animosity directed at me will be amplified infinitely.’

’That psycho might actually take it seriously and chase her across the world to kill, kill, kill!’

Besides... the air was already thick with the sour stench of jealousy.

She looked toward Yan Junxi.

Yan Junxi, on the other hand, was acting purely out of selfish motives.

He couldn’t allow any exceptionally good-looking person, man or woman, anywhere near Song Yiguo.

Letting Chen Xing stay at his place? Wasn’t that just creating problems for himself?

There was a whole squad of young, handsome members in the Superpower Group, and Vice General Du in particular was handsome to a worrying degree. To throw Chen Xing into that mix...

’Absolutely not!’

"No, thanks! I’ll just stay with Captain Lu and the others," Chen Xing said, not wanting to stir up any more unnecessary trouble.

What just happened was a small misunderstanding. It would all blow over once she left.

If the misunderstanding escalated, she’d have Situ Yuanyuan’s people following her around all day. Exhausting!

Yan Junxi also felt it was a bad idea. "I don’t think her going to your place is a good idea either!"

’Most importantly... if General Song took a liking to Chen Xing as a potential daughter-in-law, the loss would far outweigh any gain.’

’After General Song found out about his relationship with Song Yiguo, he’d been trying every method imaginable to find his son a woman. It didn’t matter what kind of woman, as long as it was a woman. Chen Xing would definitely be acceptable in his eyes. He couldn’t risk it.’

"Then be careful," Song Yiguo said, not pressing the issue.

He understood Chen Xing. Once she made up her mind, there was no changing it.

He also wanted to see more of her capabilities and take this opportunity to put some pressure on the Situ family.

The Situ family was very powerful. In the Capital City, it was safe to say that no one dared to provoke them, with the sole exception of the Song Family.

Recently, relying on the fact that they’d gathered many superpower experts from various regions, the Situ family had been getting restless and showing signs of moving against the Song Family.

If Chen Xing left the Capital City safely this time, it would be a huge slap in the face for the Situ family. He believed that would be enough to make them behave for some time.

Of course, Chen Xing was oblivious to Song Yiguo’s machinations.

After dinner, she returned to the hotel.

It was still a long time until dark. Figuring her enemies wouldn’t make a move in broad daylight, Chen Xing planned to get some good rest.

She took a relaxing bath, lay down, and was asleep in moments.

With Meng Hu standing guard, she had nothing to worry about.

A few hours later, while Chen Xing was still deep in sleep, she was awakened by a knock on the door.

She glanced at Meng Hu, who also looked like he had just woken up.

She took a moment to compose herself before opening the door.

"Something’s not right in the Capital City!" The moment the door opened, Captain Lu rushed in anxiously, went straight to the window, and yanked open the curtains, pointing to the sky.

Even with the curtains pulled open, the room was still quite dark.

Moreover, the sturdy window was rattling loudly from time to time.

Chen Xing glanced at the luminous clock on the bedside table. Four-thirty...

It was summer, so the days were long. Normally, it wouldn’t get dark until seven, or six-something at the earliest.

For it to be this dark at four-thirty, it would have to be an overcast, rainy day—a torrential downpour, even.

She immediately walked to the window.

Outside, a great wind was sweeping all sorts of things into the air. Yet, she could still vaguely make out patches of blue in the sky; it didn’t look like it was overcast with dark clouds.

"The sky isn’t normal!" Captain Lu pointed to a bright spot in the sky, the only area a person could see clearly. "It looks like a whirlpool. Just a moment ago, Vice General Du was talking with me for a bit before he was called away. He seemed to be in a huge hurry. It must have been because of this!"

As he spoke, Chen Xing kept her eyes fixed on that single point of light.

Others might not be able to see it clearly, but she could.

That spot certainly looked anything but ordinary.

Within a large whirlpool, smaller vortexes were continuously converging. As they merged, the main whirlpool grew larger and larger, resembling a bottomless hole in the sky.

The floating debris she had seen earlier was now inside that whirlpool, coalescing into chunks of various sizes, some small and some large.

If one of those large chunks were to fall, it could easily kill several people.

"Can we get a car to leave?" Chen Xing wanted to get out of the Capital City.

She didn’t know what that thing in the sky was, only that it couldn’t be anything good.

But... she knew it was a pointless question.

A car probably wouldn’t be very reliable in this gale.

She looked down and saw that the streets were completely empty.

The cars in the open-air parking lot had been shifted by the wind, and some even looked as if they were about to be blown away.

Chen Xing: "..." ’I wonder how sturdy this building is?’

’The wind is at least a Level Seven or Eight. A normal building probably can’t take it!’

"Forget it!" Captain Lu had also been observing for a while and realized it would be impossible to drive in this wind. "Even if we had a car, I’m afraid we wouldn’t be able to leave!"

’We can’t just wait here to die, can we?’

To ensure they had a comfortable and quiet stay, their rooms had been arranged on the top floor.

When a wind like this hits, it’s going to start tearing things apart from the top down!

Chen Xing knew this wasn’t good.

’I was given a second chance at life; I can’t let myself be killed by some random disaster!’

She immediately took out her phone and, for the first time, took the initiative to call Song Yiguo.

The call only connected after a long moment.

Before she could even speak, she was met with a cacophony of noise from the other end.

It was a chaotic mess on the other end; she couldn’t hear a thing clearly.

After a while, Song Yiguo’s voice came through, shouting, "Hold on, I’m stepping outside to take this. I can’t hear you in here!"

Chen Xing didn’t bother replying, just waited quietly. He wouldn’t have been able to hear her anyway.

A dozen seconds later, the noise on Song Yiguo’s end finally subsided. "Chen Xing, have you seen what’s happening outside?"

"Yes." Chen Xing had originally intended to ask Song Yiguo for help—to arrange for them to hide somewhere underground, even an abandoned subway station would do.

They might run into zombies or some other strange monsters, but that was still better than being crushed to death.

But from the sound of Song Yiguo’s voice, it seemed they hadn’t found a solution either.

In the background noise just now, she had managed to catch a few words like "evacuate," "underground," and "danger."

"Our sensors are showing hail forming in the sky, possibly the size of a fist. The surface is a little unsafe," Song Yiguo said, not telling her the whole truth.

In reality, the sensors had detected hailstones nearly the size of a child’s head, and they showed a tendency to grow even larger.

Chen Xing let out a dry laugh.

She wanted to tell him it wasn’t just simple hail, but she was reluctant to reveal that what she could see with her naked eye was floating debris.

Debris swept up from the ground was gradually expanding and absorbing moisture in the sky; one could only imagine how heavy it would be when it finally fell.
