Chapter 745: Heir
Proofread by Thomas F
‘Everyone had gathered,’ informed Carla.
Hearing that, I quickly finished what I was doing before getting up from my chair and walking out of my office.
I didn’t take the elevator. I only need to go a few floors down. I moved much faster with my speed skill, which had become even faster.
Valorous Lord of Courage may not have advanced, but its skills have become powerful.
The weight of the attributes has increased with the advancement. Making the skills stronger, this is going to be a tremendous help to me in the battle.
I am going to need every bit of strength I could muster to survive the enemies.
Soon, I reached the floor and stepped inside.
It is filled with people, nearly a thousand, seven hundred and eighty-two to be exact. The girls of the Velvet Garden, the staff of the legacy, from chefs to cleaners to gardeners.
The guards, teachers, and boatmen. Every person who is directly employed by the legacy.
“Lord Silver,”
They greeted, and I nodded as I walked to the front of them, watching them and the damage that we didn’t touch. I could have fixed it easily, but I didn’t.
Soon, I stopped in front of them, with Carla and Grade I to Grade III staff along with trainees standing behind me.
Everyone, single one of them, was here, with the police taking over security for an hour.
“There used to be a lot more of you a few weeks ago,” I said, bringing a smile to their faces; some even laughed, breaking the sombre atmosphere.
“People left, and I don’t blame them. Even I am not sure about my own survival despite being the lord of the throne,” I said, turning the mood sombre again.
It is true, even with all our advancements and plans. I don’t know if I would be able to repel the undead.
“But be sure about one thing, I will protect you all, while the blood remains flowing in my veins. I will sacrifice everything for it, including this very thing we are standing on!” I paused and looked at all of them, from those in high positions to the lowest ones.
“For me, nothing is more important than you all,” I stated, looking into the eyes of all, before smiling a little.
“The undead are coming, but there is still time, and until then, we should all celebrate. The legacy has advanced to Grade IV. We would be letting it down if we didn’t celebrate it!”
“So, there will be a party to celebrate the legacy and honour you all who forged it!” I declared, once more elevating the sombre mood.
People love to party, and this will be exclusively for them; no one else will be here.
Tomorrow, it will be for the armed forces.
“There is one more thing, the most important one,” I said, with my voice becoming low. It’s a significant thing, for which I turned and took Carla’s hand into mine.
I could see the surprise in her eyes and the multitude of questions.
“The undead are coming, and I will face them with our brave forces. There is a chance I might die, but even with that, the Velvet Garden should remain standing,” I stated, and took the Authority Pillar from Carla.
She will not need it anymore. I could see the surprise appear in her eyes, along with the questions.
“I, Remus Silver, Lord of Velvet Garden, make Carla Salt, my heir,” I said, activating the skill, while everyone watched in shock.
Not just the people in front of me, but also the people behind me.
Heir: Castellan of Mist
There was no resistance from the skill. Usually, there is, if the throne doesn’t accept it. Velvet Garden accepted her as its heir-lady.
There is no one I could choose as heir than Carla.
It is shocking to most as people choose their bloodline. Most people expected me to choose Josie, as she is my sister, but she is still a child.
Even if she were an adult, Carla would have been my first choice.
To me, Velvet Garden is beyond bloodlines. I want it to thrive and even advance. There is only one person who could do that, and that is Carla.
There was a silence for a couple of seconds. Even Carla is too shocked to speak.
“Now, disperse and come back in the evening in your finest,” I ordered, and everyone began to disperse till only the higher-ups remained.
“It should be Josie,” said Carla finally, and I shook my head.
“You are the only one I could trust with it,” I replied, looking into her eyes.
“I will not disappoint you,” she said, and I smiled. “You could never disappoint me,” I said, and I kissed her temple before walking toward the door.
I would have loved to stay for longer, but there is a ton of work waiting for me at City Hall.
Soon, I reached the lobby and walked out. As I did, the monster was waiting for me. It seemed more docile than usual.
It felt the power, which is good because I am going to ride it into battle, and I would need it entirely under my command.
I mounted it and rode toward the city. I enjoy riding and the speed it provides.
It takes me less than a third of the time to reach the city hall.
A few minutes later, I had reached the city hall and used Project Command to display an image of the park to the monster. It likes it there, especially in the garden of mist plants.
I walked into the city hall, which was quite empty. We had replaced and promoted quite a lot of people, but it is still running on only 40% of its staff compared to its peak.
Nearly 75% of the original staff had left. It’s a significant loss, but now is not the time to dwell on it.
I entered my office, and Lola bowed and bowed deeply. Usually, she only nods.
“Lord of Inam had sent a package. It will arrive by evening.” She informed. “Are those things we want part of the package?” I asked.
“Yes,” she replied.
Many things are coming; the things that the Lord of Inam was unwilling to sell us.
Now, he is sending the things that we didn’t even ask for. Many are doing it, but no one could compare to the things he is sending.
“He is really trying. Those things will affect the readiness of his forces.” Said Lola, impressed as well as surprised.
I am also a little surprised. I didn’t know the man would go this far, especially when almost everyone is saying that the undead will gobble us up.
If that were to happen, he would suffer a considerable loss.
“He is not the Lord of Inam for nothing,” I replied. The man is known for taking bold decisions at the right time. It is for this reason that the former emperor appointed him Governor of Inam.
“Anything else?” I asked, and she nodded, informing me of the other things.
I didn’t stay in my office for longer than ten minutes before walking out.

Soon, I reached the conference room and stepped inside. It is filled with people.
Seeing them, a small smile appeared on my face. While many people, most of whom are truly important, have remained.
Hardt, Alanis, Trik, Vandal, and others. They are true pillars of the city and would help tremendously in the coming war.
Especially orcs, mercenaries, and priests. Bishop Alanis had already informed me earlier that her church’s forces were coming tomorrow.
Three hundred priests and warriors. This may not seem much, but it is enormous, given the size of their forces.
They are effectively putting 70% of the forces in the city. Compared to that, Bowen, the priest of God of War, had left.
This time, not the whole church left. They had left the poor acolytes. I heard they were threatened with the gravest punishment if they were to leave.
The bastards of God of War are the worst.
I pushed those thoughts away and turned to the people in front of me.
“The dominion had been blessed. Velvet Garden had advanced to the throne,” I informed them formally, and they applauded.
It had lasted for a while.
“This is an auspicious sign; it will bring prosperity to the dominion,” replied Trik, making me and others smile. We are a boat in a storm, searching for any sign that gives us hope to survive.
“Thank you for the kind words, Shaman Trik,” I said to Trik, before my expression turned serious.
“It’s the truth, my lord,” he replied, making me smile further. He has a strong belief in his ways, and I respect that, despite not truly believing them, even in a world where everything is possible.
“There is another important announcement I have to make,” I said, turning my expression serious.
“I have chosen Carla Salt as the heir of Velvet Garden,” I informed, and immediately, the whole conference room stilled. Many are shocked, the news hadn’t leaked yet.
Since the people are still in the legacy, and with only those with an aura authorised for communication.
Forty minutes later, I walked out of the conference room and met a few people who had come from the merchant state.
Hours passed, and before I knew it, it was late afternoon. The party will start soon, but I won’t be able to leave the city hall until at least eight.
I had planned to spar with Bell to test my strength, but I will have to do it after the party.

It was past seven, and I walked out of the conference room after attending another meeting. It was with Stone and other senior army officials.
“The Crown Prince wants to talk to you,” informed Zela, and a sigh couldn’t help but escape my lips.
“It won’t be a good conversation,” I said. I don’t want to do it, but I will have to, especially when I need his help on the day of the battle.
It’s about Carla, or rather, the heir.
Assigning it is a political matter and requires the Sovereign’s permission. It’s a Sovereign who decrees it after discussing with the lord of legacy.
So, he might be feeling disrespected, but it’s not like I could have taken permission from him.
It would have opened another set of troubles and would have given him more influence over my legacy than I want to give him.
Not to mention. He would have never agreed to her as an heir.
It is going to be a tricky conversation, but before I do that, I need to contact another person who will help me with this.
“Connect me to the Prime Minister,” I asked Zela as I reached my office.
