Chillin' on an Uninhabited Island in Another World

Chapter 142: First, Three of Them

We decided to search for the boys and offer them a deal.

In exchange for providing food, clothing, and shelter, we would have them handle information gathering through exploration and collecting materials.

There was no downside for us, and it was also something Ms. Luminous strongly wanted.

As a teacher, she probably thought it would be ideal for the whole class to come together as one. Sadly, though, the boys’ reputation on this island had fallen straight through the floor.

The two boys who targeted Minori at the very start of the transfer.

The ones who must have been going through a lot on Day Five of deserted island life, sure, but who lied during the event and fired a gun.

And the boys who were still, even now, targeting the members of Suou Party.

Our party, of course, had no desire to bring boys in as allies now, and Suou Party, which had managed to unite precisely because it narrowed itself down to girls only, probably felt the same. Sorry, but that was the reality.

That said, it was also true that our lives had grown more comfortable, and considering the future, I had no objection to making a deal with them.

“Where shall we go first?”

Ms. Luminous asked from Mashiro’s back.

Mashiro was racing through the forest.

“For now, I guess the guys who’ve been messing with Suou Team.”

Or more accurately, trying to mess with them and failing.

During the second event, the ability holders in Suou Party had more or less been revealed too.

Considering that most of the boys did not have abilities, it made sense that Suou Party had been able to defend itself until now.

Enhanced archery, physical clones, enhanced leg strength, immortality, the power to manipulate shadows, and so on.

But possessing the power to repel someone and actually swinging that power at another person were two very different things.

Kind of like how not everyone can fire a gun just because they are handed one.

There were penalties too, so they had no choice but to be cautious about using their powers against people.

“Yes... I do hope those boys will turn over a new leaf as well.”

Ms. Luminous’s face looked conflicted.

Her concern for the girls who had been caused trouble and her inability to abandon the boys were probably struggling against each other.

The stress of being a teacher seemed like a serious burden.

“Are we stopping by Ryouka’s place?”

Shouko asked.

“The boys come first. Once we’ve convinced them, I think we should have them apologize to Suou and the others. Whether we do that today or not, we can decide later.”

I set aside the question of whether that was really our job.

Eventually, we were going back to Japan.

We still did not know who would keep their memories and who would forget them when that happened, but it was better not to leave any resentment behind.

As things stood, if everyone carried their memories over, the boys in our class would end up being despised by the girls.

Worse, we had only just moved up to second year, which meant we would have to spend a whole year in the worst possible atmosphere.

“Mm-hmm. I wanted to see Aocchi and the others too, but we’ll have chances besides today.”

Most of Shouko’s group belonged to my party, but not all of them.

Some of the girls were part of Suou Party.

“I am curious about Suou’s party too, but I’m also worried whether the boys will actually listen to us honestly...”

Minori’s worry was reasonable.

“Mm. There’s a useful spell for that. I just learned it.”

Chiyu said with total confidence.

Though by total confidence, I meant that to anyone besides me, she probably looked as expressionless as ever.

“A new spell, huh. I’m counting on you.”

Mashiro snorted in boredom as he pushed steadily onward.

For Mashiro, who loved girls, being told to follow the scent of boys might have been torture.

Even so, he obeyed Shouko’s request and carried us along.

“Oh, Mashiro says we’re almost there!”

Before long, a likely-looking place came into view through a gap in the trees.

It was a space in the forest surrounded by a crude fence.

Inside were three boys in ragged clothes.

All three of them were devouring fruit.

“...! Wh-what the hell!?”

“A wolf!?”

“No, that’s not it! It’s the thing we saw at the last event!”

The three noticed us and stood up in shock.

“Please calm down. We are—”

Ms. Luminous called out to them, but her voice did not reach the boys.

“Damn it! What are you here for!?”

“D-did Suou and the others send you!?”

“Don’t you think it’s unfair, getting weird powers for yourselves like that!?”

“Calm.”

When Chiyu cast her spell, the light of reason returned to the bloodshot eyes of the boys.

“Ms. Luminous. It’s all right now.”

“Y-yes. Um, we did not come here to hurt you...!”

“...Huh? It’s Lumi.”

“Why are you here?”

“No, the dream said she’d been placed here as an addition, remember?”

The three boys immediately regained their composure and started talking with the same sort of casual mood they might have if they ran into their assistant homeroom teacher in town.

I see. So it was a spell that calmed the mind.

In games, there were white magic spells that cured confusion and things like that, so maybe that was where it came from.

Once the boys had settled down, Ms. Luminous offered them the deal.

We would provide food, clothing, and shelter, and they would cooperate with material collection and mapmaking.

And in these three boys’ case, they also had to stop causing Suou Party any further trouble.

On top of that, they would go with Ms. Luminous to apologize to the girls.

Now that the three had cooled their heads, they agreed right away.

Incidentally, we still listened to their side of the story too, just in case there was any mismatch between their understanding and Suou Party’s.

When we spoke with Suou Party, we had Shion check as well, but if the person did not feel like they were lying, her ability could not see through it.

So we decided to hear things from the boys’ side too.

The boys more or less admitted their guilt.

At first, their feelings of wanting to be allowed into the group had been strong, but after being rejected, they had ended up acting in a way that was close to harassment.

For the moment, I gave each of the three boys one hut.

Other than that, I handed over clean changes of clothes, towels, soap, water, Shion’s handmade bread, meat and fish, salt, and other seasonings.

“Whoa!”

“I-is this really okay?”

“Thank you... thank you...”

Some of them even teared up, but no one laughed.

Maybe the girls understood how they felt, because they nodded along.

“I am sure you lost the emotional breathing room you needed. But even so, you must not trouble your classmates. You are going to apologize properly, all right?”

“Yes...!”

The boys nodded over and over.

It had been settled almost too easily, but when I looked at Shion, she confirmed that they were not lying.

Maybe they were decent guys at heart.

...It would be nice if everyone were like that.
