Chapter 1172: All-Out Assault (1)
Year 427 of Heavenly Primacy, Month 12, Day 28.
The appearance of the bronze ghost-head gate signaled that the spatial barrier between the Stellar Chiliocosm and the Primordial Fog Domain had weakened to its greatest extent. With these gates linking the two planes, no power could stop the invasion of the Primordial Fog Domain.
First to invade was the unique demonic energy of the Primordial Fog Domain. This demonic energy was the source of the demons’ power but was toxic to humans.
And then a flood of demon infants rushed through the gates.
They didn’t march out of the gates so much as shoot out like a barrage of crossbow bolts!
Each demon infant was a bolt, and a deluge of tens of millions of crossbow bolts covered the skies.
This “rain of arrows” went on for a whole fifteen minutes before finally stopping. By this point, the demon infants had carpeted a vast area around the bronze gates, screeching as they ran about and attacked any living being in sight, putting their savagery on full display. Their strength was equivalent to that of a Spirit Spring student, only a little stronger than a mortal, but they were crueler than most demons.
After the demon infants came the Allcomers. Tang Jie had encountered these demons in the Verdant Cloud Domain before. They were also low-level existences of the Primordial Fog Domain, but much stronger than demon infants, so they were normally used as servants on the battlefield, with the strength of Spirit Lake students. Unlike demon infants, Allcomers were like enraged horses, roaring out of the gates. They had no ability to fly, so they fell from the sky and crashed to the ground, but they simply shook it off and threw their large heads back to howl at the sky.
And then pitch-black demons with curved horns, Demonhorns, emerged from the gate. If the demon infants were the food and Allcomers were servants, Demonhorns were cannon fodder. As the cannon fodder species, Demonhorns had the honor of being ranked on the Demon Codex at 291. Their strength was equivalent to Spirit Sea, and as the ninth from the bottom, they had the illustrious title of being one of the “Ten Great Cannon Fodders of Demonkind”.
Numerous Demonhorns jumped out of the gate. Unable to fly, they possessed a powerful leaping ability that granted them the ability to attack airborne targets to a certain extent, and their wild natures made them unafraid of death and willing to attack any existence no matter how powerful. This was a common trait of most demons, being willing even to challenge Immortals.Following the Demonhorns were the four-winged Red Bats. These demons lived in the Abyss of Eternal Darkness of the Primordial Fog. They were experts at flying and had claws coated in venom. Red Bats were 265 on the Demon Codex, their strength comparable to Hundred Refinement Spirit Masters. Although their rank wasn’t high, their natural ability to fly let them group and exhibit a strength far greater than their rank. But they were more suited for being scouts. When millions of Red Bats appeared in every corner of the sky, they were even more useful than the Divine Will of Immortals.
Behind the Red Bats were Ironbones. These demons’ forms were similar to humans, but had all been turned to bone that shone with a metallic luster.
This was actual metal, for Ironbones absorbed the metals in the soil into their bones, giving them a tough, armor-like exterior.
In the Primordial Fog Domain, there were twelve kinds of powerful bone-type demons, and Ironbones were the weakest, ranked 232nd, their power akin to a Nine Revolutions Spirit Master, yet they were also the most favored by the devil Titans. This was because Ironbones were more disciplined, able to accept and carry out commands. If Demonhorns were cannon fodder, Ironbones were the regular soldiers. While they were the weakest soldiers of the standing army, they were still extremely disciplined.
The Ironbones came out in formation, like a well-trained human army, their bodies shining like armor and one of their arms morphed into a giant scythe. If necessary, they could pull bones out of their body to strengthen their attacks.
Behind the Ironbones were the Silver Pyros.
Silver Pyros were ranked 16th among the 24 fire-type demons of the Primordial Fog Domain, and they were ranked 193rd in the Demon Codex, their strength comparable to Cognitive Creation Spirit Masters that had yet to enter the Three Witherings. The silver flames of these demons were extremely powerful, and worst of all, the Silver Pyros could combine their flames to boost their power, which could threaten even Celestial Heart True Persons.
The Silver Pyros charged out of the bronze gate. Below were the army of demon infants, Allcomers, Demonhorns, and Ironbones, and above were the Red Bats and Silver Pyros, forming a grandiose sight.
At this time, three figures flew over.
Their leader was a man who rode on a cloud and held a green lotus. This man was Reverend Lotus, an Immortal who had descended to the Rosecloud Domain after it had set off on its path of the stars. The cultivator wars had not only expanded the Rosecloud Domain but had also let it recruit many cultivators to grow its strength, and Reverend Lotus was one of them.
His estate, the Green Lotus Paradise, was closest to Heavenweave Ridge, so he was the first to notice the gate opening and come to investigate.
The other two were brothers, the elder brother Jing Yuanyang and the younger brother Jing Yuanhao. They were Violet Palace wandering cultivators of Rosecloud who had been passing through the area when they noticed the anomaly.
Even though the three had rushed over as quickly as they could, by the time they arrived, the world was cloaked in black fog and covered in demons.
Jing Yuanyang angrily said, “These damned demons again!”
Jing Yuanyang rushed toward the demons, Reverend Lotus unable to stop him in time. Taking out the large sword on his back, he threw it into the air, upon which it transformed into a flood of sword energy that blasted the demons below in a deluge of blood.
Jing Yuanhao also rushed out, simply pushing out his hands and creating a wall of clouds that surged toward the Red Bats and Silver Pyros.
The horde of demons screeched in unison and began to attack the three.
The demon infants and Allcomers couldn’t do anything, but the other four kinds of demons had no fear of Violet Palace or Immortal Platform cultivators.
The Demonhorns began to jump into the air, but while they could jump extremely high, they were still far from reaching the trio. But just as their impetus was running out, more Demonhorns used the bodies of their comrades as springboards. Those that served this role fell back to the ground and jumped back up again. In this way, the Demonhorns were able to attack the three, leaping into the fray unafraid of the clouds or sword energy.
The Red Bats also screeched and flew over. While not strong, they were extremely fast, and most shocking of all was that some of them would explode when nearing the three, the explosions creating ripples across their barriers.
These explosions the Red Bats were creating using their own lives could threaten cultivators a level above them, but it was nothing more than a light breeze to Violet Palace cultivators. Even so, thousands of these light breezes could create a hurricane, and even Violet Palace cultivators would find it a problem.
But even more problematic were the Ironbones.
As the sword energy descended from the sky, all the Ironbones suddenly began to shine, signifying that they were assuming a formation. All their energy was linked together, undergoing a qualitative transformation. Jing Yuanyang’s sword energy failed to break through the Ironbone formation, and meanwhile, the Ironbones began to extract black bones from their bodies and shoot them into the sky, forcing Jing Yuanyang to divert some of his energy to deal with them.
If these demons were still not enough to pose a substantial threat, the attacks of the Silver Pyros were much scarier. These flame-controlling demons floated in the air, unleashing their flames in a silver net that fell toward the three. If a bystander saw this, they would take it for some powerful Divine Connection.
The Jing brothers did not dare to take on the flames of several thousand Silver Pyros, but fortunately, Reverend Lotus was there.
Reverend Lotus threw out his green lotus.
The lotus slowly bloomed, and countless green rays of light shot out from it, blocking all the silver flames. Some of the green light even fell on the demons, causing their flesh to start decaying.
If this continued, Reverend Lotus had a high chance of stopping the attack from the bronze gate.
But at this moment, a Red Bat flew over. Reverend Lotus paid it no mind, as for him, even without a barrier, he could take on the explosion of a Red Bat without a problem. When the strength gap was this big, numbers truly no longer mattered.
Suddenly, Reverend Lotus had an ill foreboding and let out a hiss as he thrust out his palm, but it was too late. The Red Bat suddenly accelerated, shooting through Reverend Lotus’s body like an arrow.
Reverend Lotus screamed as his body exploded.
“Hahahaha!” With a wild laugh, the Red Bat transformed into a two-horned, fanged demon holding a black scythe, who triumphantly crowed, “Fool! Now that the Demon Gates have been opened, nothing is stopping we high-tier devils from entering. In these circumstances, thinking that we devils would still send in the weaklings first is pure idiocy, hahaha!”
“Shameless!” the Jing brothers cursed.
Reverend Lotus truly had made a mistake. When he saw all those low-level demons coming out, he simply assumed that the real experts had yet to come through. After all, the gate still had a certain size. But he forgot that size wasn’t actually any kind of restraint. High-tier devils could already enter the Rosecloud Domain a month ago, so it was even easier for them to infiltrate now.
This was why some powerful devils had already mixed in with the low-level demons to ambush unsuspecting foes.
Reverend Lotus’s body began to reform. Though he had suffered a sneak attack, he was still an Immortal who could reform his body. But in this process, he felt an energy rampaging within him, and paled. “Primordial Fog Violet Energy!”
