Chapter 1104: Planning
The battle continued.
Ghost wars were much more brutal than those of humans.
There were no civilians. Every existence was an enemy!
There was only slaughter and more slaughter, to slay or be slain. The spirits of the dead silently waved their blades, expressing fear and screaming in their own way.
A higher level of battle was taking place up in the air.
Countless ghost generals and Ghost Kings unleashed their spell arts at each other, weaving a storm of death in the sky. The firepower concentrated in this storm was more than the average Violet Palace expert could handle, and it was only among the fearless ghosts that it would appear.
Offensive and defensive spell arts exploded against each other, adding shocks of color to the rather monotone Nether Domain.
There was no blood or lamentation, but there were countless souls shattered, bodies pulverized, wills obliterated!
On this battlefield, even a Nether Emperor risked dying, let alone Ghost Kings.
As Tang Jie fought, he took note of his surroundings, particularly that golden-armored Corpse King behind him.A powerful black gale was buffeting that Corpse King. Despite the Corpse King’s strength and toughness, the corrosive wind slowly ate away at it, forcing it back as it bellowed in anger.
Perhaps the anger got to its head, for the golden-armored Corpse King threw its head back and let out a roar of fury.
And then it barreled forward.
Shit! Tang Jie silently cursed.
Mei Huaping wasn’t so impulsive, so this was probably thanks to the violent nature of the Corpse King he was possessing. In fact, the other four golden-armored Corpse Kings had already charged into the fray, and all of them had died flashy deaths. While Mei Huaping had managed to control the Corpse King so far, as his focus was worn down by the battle, his grip loosened, and the wild nature of the ghost took the fore.
As the golden-armored Corpse King charged, countless arrows of light pelted him, the barrage overpowering his tough hide and wreaking havoc on his body. He crazily roared, swiping here and there, tearing apart foe after foe while his own life just as quickly drained away.
As the battle wore on and the injuries accumulated, he began to slow down, and his strength began to fade.
Mei Huaping could feel this body he possessed walking toward death.
Just when he was about to die, Mei Huaping finally came to his senses, and when he saw the terrible plight he was in, he despaired. Getting into a high-tier Ghost King hadn’t been easy, and he had gone to great lengths before finally succeeding.
He hadn’t expected a momentary lapse would end with him in such hot water, and he began to panic. He wanted to retreat, but his enemies refused to let him go, and the other ghosts were too unintelligent to have any thought of protecting their king.
In this perilous moment, a giant figure suddenly charged over.
A silver-armored corpse general!
The silver-armored corpse rushed over and used its own body to block the attacks, letting out a furious roar. It then turned to glance at him and shout, “Go!”
It was just one word, but Mei Huaping understood that this was his chance.
He used this brief break in the action to fall all the way back to the rear.
That was close!
If his body weren’t a corpse, he would already be drenched in cold sweat. It was a good thing the silver-armored corpse had helped him, or else he would have been no more. He couldn’t help but wonder if that corpse had made it out.
Turning back, he saw no sign of that silver-armored corpse, and he sighed.
It was easy to find a ghost general that didn’t fear death, but those that understood how to prioritize protecting their superiors were rare.
The battle lasted for an entire day, and only when reinforcements from the other three cities arrived did the invading ghost army retreat.
On the surface, the battle seemed to have no result, but some conclusions could be implicitly drawn.
Four hours after the battle ended, the three Nether Emperors, none of which had participated in that battle, gathered once more.
“It’s been confirmed that the ghost army belonged to the Eternal Night God King,” the Preta Nether Emperor, Wuyuan, said.
“It seems he also heard that His Majesty was seriously injured, and this battle was to see if that was true,” the putrid Nether Emperor, Witherdark, said.
“He brought over an army led by Nether Emperors, even mobilizing the Black Death Chiefs and Heavenly Punishment Beasts, yet there was no response from His Majesty, with only the concerted efforts of a few Nether Emperors there to fend off the attack. There’s no doubt that His Majesty is injured,” the bull spirit Nether Emperor, Kilday, said.
Nether God Eternal Night’s probe had obtained the result desired by both sides. It was confirmed that Nirvana was injured, and all those lurking in the shadows instantly became restless.
Witherdark said, “Eternal Night attacking was good for us, but it’s also a problem. He can draw the same conclusions, so he will definitely come over personally.”
“Indeed!” Wuyuan said. “But this will be our chance. Since His Majesty is sleeping, the Soul-Sealing Death Prison must have been activated, and even the Eternal Night God King won’t be able to break through such a powerful formation so easily. Once he begins his assault on the prison, we can use that moment to charge in.”
“I agree. So long as we can kill Gold Extinction and fight our way into the Nether God palace, we can kill that old thing and crown a new God King, after which all the attacks from outside can easily be handled,” Kilday said.
There was no need to discuss who would be crowned king. There were three Nether Emperors here, and even if only one of them made it, it would be considered a victory.
To advance to a higher level, they were willing to gamble everything, their life included.
So it was for humans, and so it was for ghosts!
Since they had decided to take the gamble, they now had to discuss the actual details of their plan.
There was still some time before Eternal Night would act, since this Nether God needed his own time to prepare and deal with the final barrier that was the Soul-Sealing Death Prison. This gave the three Nether Emperors the time they needed to find a way into the Nether God palace.
The palace was protected by the Prison, and nobody without permission could force their way in. The only way through was the main gate. The captain of the guard, King River Cross, had an inflexible personality, and he would not let any ghost through. Mei Huaping had already confirmed this.
This made getting into the Nether God palace very tricky.
After a long discussion, they finally drafted a plan.
The Nether Emperors naturally couldn’t execute the plan themselves. The slumbering Nirvana God King relied on Nether Emperors to protect himself, but he also feared Nether Emperors the most. Without a royal decree, no Nether Emperor could approach the palace, which was why they had sent the gold-armored Corpse King.
The gold-armored Corpse King Mei Huaping was possessing was a subordinate of Shadowhowl City, but he had actually thrown in his lot with Wuyuan. He was the strongest Ghost King the three Nether Emperors could use. They had relied on him last time, and they would rely on him again for this plan.
Thus, the three Nether Emperors summoned Mei Huaping.
Mei Huaping grew excited when he heard his mission.
He knew that this was a dangerous mission.
But just like the three Nether Emperors, he also wanted to become a Nether God, even willing to betray others for the opportunity. Only then could he completely break free of Tang Jie’s Divine Will.
But how could he complete the mission assigned to him by the three Nether Emperors? Mei Huaping fell into deep thought.
As he was thinking, he saw a silver-armored corpse walk past his grave.
Mei Huaping’s eyes brightened at the sight of this familiar figure.
It was him?
It was this corpse general that had covered his retreat in the battle a few days ago, and Mei Huaping had been touched by his loyalty.
He hadn’t expected this corpse to survive, and it seemed like it had gotten stronger.
Mei Huaping immediately called out from his coffin, “You, come here!”
Tang Jie turned around and bowed to the coffin. “Hail, Your Highness!”
“Very good!” the Corpse King’s voice rumbled from the coffin.
Mei Huaping was very satisfied by the response.
Armored corpses were stupid ghosts, and it was much more difficult for them to gain intelligence than other ghosts. Even when they were no longer mindless, their intelligence was still rather low.
This silver-armored corpse was clearly more intelligent than his peers, so perhaps he could help him complete the plan.
He began to develop his own plan.
Mei Huaping said, “You did very well. I have yet to repay you for saving me last time. To commend your loyalty, I plan to recommend you to the Nether God.”
Tang Jie inwardly chuckled.
He knew that Mei Huaping wanted to use him, but this was exactly what he wanted, so he wiggled his “clumsy” body in excitement.
Mei Huaping nodded in satisfaction. “Very good. Tomorrow, come here, and I will bring you to Nirvana Palace.”
Tang Jie agreed and then took his leave.
The next day, Tang Jie arrived as ordered. Mei Huaping, still lying in the coffin, slapped it and said, “Let’s go.”
The four jumping zombies raised the coffin and advanced, Tang Jie following behind.
With a golden-armored Corpse King leading the way, Tang Jie easily made it through the western gate.
Beyond Shadowhowl City was a desert-like region known as the Zone of Stillness.
This region was a manifestation of the Nirvana God King’s absolute authority. Nobody who stepped onto this land could hide from him. As an extension of the Nether God’s will, it suppressed all existences within.
But Tang Jie didn’t feel like he was being observed at all, nor did he feel any hidden threat. There was only a silent desolation.
Tang Jie knew that this was because the Nether God was in hibernation.
This stillness was a true stillness!
After a long walk through the Zone of Stillness, Tang Jie finally reached the gate of the Nether God palace.
The massive palace gate loomed before him like a mountain. A large ghost head was embedded into the gate, looking down with half-lidded eyes as it spoke in a rumbling voice:
“What is the purpose of your visit?”
