Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person

Chapter 34: I’ll Leave It to You Two

Chapter 34: Chapter 34: I’ll Leave It to You Two

“Brother Su, he’s probably afraid we’ll steal his stuff…”

Zhong Xiaoshan whispered in Zhang Su’s ear, believing she would think the same if she were him.

Zhang Su shrugged, noncommittal, and stepped forward, saying, “Brother, we’re searching for food and water. Do you have any surplus?”

There was no response from inside the door, only the sound of shuffling. Moments later, the door cracked open, followed by a bang as it shut again.

The sudden noise startled the three.

“I’ve got a few packs of instant noodles and canned food. Take them and leave, and don’t come back!”

The man inside said calmly, devoid of joy or sorrow.

Zhang Su cautiously pulled the door open to find another inner door. The double door design helps with soundproofing and security, which some homeowners opt to add.

The space between the two doors was just thirty centimeters, with a shoe rack where a dozen pairs of shoes were neatly arranged from top to bottom. On the floor was a large opened package of instant noodles and a can of yellow peaches.

Zhang Su picked up the instant noodles; there were four small packs inside. The can was large, about seven to eight hundred grams.

“This brother seems pretty decent.”

Zheng Xinyu said as she looked at the items in Zhang Su’s hands.

Zhong Xiaoshan nodded in agreement; it’s rare to find someone willing to share in such a desperate environment; she wouldn’t do it if it were her.

“I guess he might not have realized the situation, thinking it’s just an ordinary disaster with imminent official rescue…”

Zhang Su held the instant noodles and canned food given by the man but didn’t pack them immediately.

He initially intended to test the man’s attitude but didn’t expect such a generous response, making him hesitant to take the goods.

“Why haven’t you left yet? Hurry up, leave, and don’t come back!”

Just as Zhang Su planned to explain the situation to the man inside, a furious roar erupted from within, the sudden outburst leaving the three bewildered.

“Bro, this disaster is not a simple one. It’s chaotic outside, and no one will take care of us. Keep your stuff, thank you!”

Zhang Su decided not to take the man’s supplies, gently placing them down before closing the door and leaving the twelfth floor with the two women.

A man with disheveled hair stood inside door 1201, his eyes hollow behind his glasses. Emotional fluctuation made his hands tremble slightly. After watching Zhang Su and the others leave through the peephole, he returned to his room, ignoring the items on the floor with a peculiar smile on his face.

“Xiaomin, they’ve left. It’s so quiet, the room is quiet, the hallway is quiet, the whole world is quiet. But why are you so quiet too? Wake up and talk to me, won’t you?”

The man sat on the floor, holding his wife whose skin was grayish-blue, her head bloodied, a fruit knife still lodged in it.

The three returned to the eleventh floor. The zombie inside 1101 had stopped pounding at the door, as if programmed to enter a power-saving mode when it couldn’t sense prey for a certain time.

“I reckon many people are like that brother on the twelfth floor, still waiting for official rescue at home. We’ve reacted and acted quickly as survivors!”

Zhang Su reflected on the brief conversation earlier.

“Definitely! On the first day, you were like a madman leading me to kill zombies. Now thinking back, it feels unreal. What were you thinking?”

Zheng Xinyu exhaled, somewhat aggrievedly looking at Zhang Su.

Zhang Su didn’t rush to open the door. Instead, he lit a cigarette, saying, “Wouldn’t it be good to adapt sooner? Everyone gets information differently. If they know the outside is in complete chaos, they’d pluck up the courage to face it even if they’re scared!”

Dependence and trust are double-edged swords. They can provide faith in times of despair but may also lead to losing the fighting spirit due to excessive reliance and trust!

“Brother Su… you say the outside is completely chaotic, but how big is this ’outside’ really?”

Zhong Xiaoshan asked with a gloomy face, still unaware of the disaster’s scope until now.

Zhang Su exchanged a glance with Zheng Xinyu, saying lowly, “Human civilization.”

Hearing Zhang Su’s words, Zhong Xiaoshan showed disbelief, her body swayed almost to falling. Just as she was about to ask more, Zhang Su shushed her before making an odd move.

Zhang Su took a smoke fiercely, then gently held up door 1101, blowing smoke through the crack, waiting a moment to see no action inside, then repeated the process four or five times.

“Looks like these guys don’t have specific reactions to smoke, so maybe it can mask its sense of smell; the ones befuddled by smoke are up to you two!”

Zhang Su instructed before inserting the key into the lock.

“What the heck, you should have said earlier!”

“Oh, weren’t we supposed to lure it to the stairs…”

Neither Zheng Xinyu nor Zhong Xiaoshan instinctively disobeyed Zhang Su’s orders; despite having fear in their hearts, they picked up their weapons, ready for combat—this battle left no room for retreat.

Turning the key lightly, Zhang Su lifted the door slightly, opening it slowly to avoid squeaks from the hinges due to excessive force.

The smoke obscured the bloody scent and hindered the zombie’s ability to sense living beings. When the door crack opened widely, the zombie stood with rigid joints, back facing the door, its upper body swaying slightly, neck turning mechanically in narrow motions, seeming relatively quiet.

The figure and clothing indicated it was a female zombie, with long hair on the shoulders, dried and wilted due to mutation, like a poorly done perm from Teacher Tony…

With experience from last time, Zheng Xinyu wasted no time, using ghostly speed and a fierce swing, dealt the zombie a hard blow with the baseball bat!

Bang!

The heavy bat hit the zombie’s skull with a thud.

Roar! Ow!

The zombie, suddenly attacked, let out an angry howl. As it turned to face them, another attack came down on its face.

Thunk.

The heavy wrench slammed into its head, knocking the zombie slightly off balance.

Zheng Xinyu vividly recalled their first zombie kill; it couldn’t be resolved in just one or two hits, so she charged up for another attack after the initial strike.

Thunk, swish, bang, thunk thunk thunk…

Under the relentless strike of the metal bat and Da Tie’s wrench, the female zombie couldn’t defend at all, quickly falling to the ground.

“Ah!”

With Zhong Xiaoshan’s soft cry, the wrench crushed down, leaving the zombie’s face sunken in. After a spasmodic twitch of its limbs like a short circuit, it lay still, its remaining red eye gradually changing into a normal pupil.

“So brutal, but well done…”

Zhang Su held onto the axe hammer tightly, ready to intervene if necessary. The actual situation was better than expected, both women unleashed their potential when faced with danger.
