Chapter 91 Weapon Shopping

Chapter 91: Chapter 91 Weapon Shopping

Afraid that the commotion outside would eventually reach them, none of them could truly relax enough to enjoy their meal. Even though the food Miles had prepared was delicious, the constant vibrations coming from outside made it difficult to settle. Miles moved around the table, serving everyone onto their ceramic plates, and every now and then, the entire house gave a faint tremor that rattled the utensils against the plates. Whatever the military was doing outside, they certainly weren’t giving up.

Astrid had already eaten to his heart’s content—his hunger had finally disappeared—so he sat quietly, watching the others eat while trying to understand exactly what kind of people he had ended up with. Luna, meanwhile, was already going through their plan. She held a piece of meat on her fork, looking around the table at all of them.

"We’re supposed to observe table manners and all that bullshit," she said, "but fuck all of that." She popped the meat into her mouth and chewed slowly. "This is the moment where every single one of us has to defend this base with everything we’ve got before we lose it."

The atmosphere immediately became more serious. "Yes, this mountain and the island surrounding it are practically impenetrable, but we have people out there actively searching for something. Whatever they’re looking for, they might eventually discover this place." She tapped her fork against her plate. "And if they expose the location of this base, all the safety we’ve worked for becomes useless. I won’t let that happen, and neither should any of you. So we’re going to do everything we can to send them packing."

Luna picked up another piece of beef—the meat was tender and practically melted on her tongue. She couldn’t help but nod slightly in appreciation. Miles really was a damn good cook. "I hope you’re all listening to me."

Immediately, Kai hiccupped. The food nearly went down the wrong way. "Holy shit!" He grabbed his chest and coughed. "You scared me with that voice. Take it easy before you send someone to an early grave."

Luna stared at him, her eyes narrowing. "Having fun, aren’t you?"

Kai slowly lowered his spoon. Luna smiled. "Enjoy it while you can, because when I start kicking your ass, don’t say I didn’t warn you." Kai immediately became quiet, and Luna returned to her meal as though nothing had happened.

Rowan cleared his throat. "There is one thing I’m trying to understand." Everyone looked toward him. "Are we chasing them away from here, or are we killing them?"

The question silenced the entire table. Every pair of eyes eventually settled on Luna, who didn’t look particularly bothered by the question. Instead, she picked up another piece of meat. "Why would we let them live long enough to go back and reveal our location?" She took a bite and chewed before continuing. "Obviously, we’re not doing that."

Adrian frowned slightly. "So we’re killing them?"

"Not directly." Luna swallowed. "They already found their way into my territory. We don’t need to dirty our hands unnecessarily. All we have to do is force them outside the safe zone and off the protected ground." Her lips curled into a cold smile. "Once they’re outside, they’ll have to deal with the monsters themselves."

Astrid’s expression changed slightly. The plan was ruthless, but after everything he had seen outside, he couldn’t exactly call it unreasonable.

Luna continued, "We’ll do it quickly and get back inside. Because tomorrow is going to be even worse."

Rowan’s eyes narrowed. "Tomorrow?"

"The ruined city."

The moment Luna mentioned it, the atmosphere around the table changed. Everyone remembered. That place—the place where the meteorite had fallen, the place where the system had stopped functioning, the place where their powers had completely disappeared. Even Luna didn’t want to return there. If the same thing happened again, they would lose the greatest advantage they had.

Adrian’s face immediately fell. "Wait." He placed his spoon down. "You mean the place where the meteorite fell? The area with that weird energy surrounding it?"

Luna nodded. "Yep."

Adrian stared at her. "You’re kidding."

"Nope."

"Luna."

"I know."

"You actually want us to go back there?"

"Yes."

Adrian leaned back in his chair and rubbed his face. "That place is practically a death sentence."

"I know that too." Luna’s voice became more serious. "I don’t know whether the meteorite is still there or if something has happened to it since we left, but whatever is happening around that place isn’t going away anytime soon." She looked around the table. "That means we’re going to prepare ten times better than before."

Her gaze shifted toward Astrid. "And what Astrid told me makes things even more complicated." Astrid straightened slightly. "The government is probably preparing another protocol. If what he suspects is true, they’re going to start eliminating more survivors and tightening their control over the remaining awakened." She placed her fork down. "Once that happens, going outside freely might become impossible."

The room became quiet. "So this could be our last proper mission." Luna looked at each of them. "Which means we do this like our lives actually depend on it."

For a moment, nobody spoke. Then Rowan nodded—he understood what she meant. They weren’t simply going outside to fight; they were going out because the world was closing around them.

Luna finished her meal, drank the last of her juice, then took a few gulps from her water bottle. Afterward, she looked toward the system panel and her expression immediately changed. "Fuck."

"What?" Kai asked.

Luna pointed toward the display. "The aircraft." Everyone turned. The military aircraft had moved significantly closer—it was approaching the mountain. The invisibility shield wouldn’t be able to hide them forever if the military kept searching the area. Their defenses could hold for some time, but the constant pressure would eventually expose them.

Luna pushed herself to her feet. "They’re almost here." Her fingers tapped against the table. "The two remaining creatures should be dead soon. Once they finish them, that’s when we move." She looked at everyone. "We reveal ourselves and drive them away."

Ethan, however, remained unusually quiet. He eventually raised his hand slightly. "There is just one problem." Luna looked at him. "I don’t understand how my powers are going to help in a fight like this." He gestured toward himself. "I’m a healer. I can keep you alive, but I can’t exactly blast the military away with healing magic."

Luna paused. That was actually a problem. Ethan was their primary healer—his ability was extremely valuable, but it wasn’t designed for direct combat. Before Luna could say anything, Ethan sighed. "Don’t worry." He pushed his chair back. "I’m also pretty damn good with weapons."

Kai raised a brow. "You are?" Ethan ignored him. "Give me a good weapon and I’ll handle myself."

Luna stared at him for a moment before smiling. "Fine." She raised her hand, and the system immediately hummed. A translucent interface appeared in front of her, opening the armory. Luna gave the system permission, and the armory activated. A gigantic bow appeared before Ethan, and he caught it effortlessly. The weapon was far larger than anything a normal person should have been able to handle, but Ethan held it like it belonged in his hands.

At the same time, the system’s light washed over his body. His soft clothes disappeared beneath the translucent glow, replaced by proper combat armor. The material covered his torso and limbs without restricting his movement, giving him the appearance of someone who had stepped straight onto a battlefield. Ethan looked down at himself, then at the bow. A small smile appeared. "Perfect."

Adrian’s jaw dropped. "Hold on." He pointed at the weapon. "Where the hell did you learn to use a bow like that?"

Ethan looked at him. "You looked like a professional just now."

Ethan’s expression immediately went flat. "None of your business, dude." He turned away. "Go get your own weapon and leave me alone."

Adrian blinked. "Okay..."

Ethan walked away, carrying the massive bow. The others began preparing as well. They had finished their food, and Miles was already gathering the plates and stacking them together for washing. Unlike Ethan, the others didn’t need conventional weapons—their awakened abilities were already powerful enough to serve as their primary weapons. Still, Luna wasn’t taking any chances. She equipped herself with a heavy gun and a spear before allowing the system to cover her body in protective armor. Rowan, Kai, Adrian, and Ethan received similar protection, each armor customized according to their preferred colors and fighting styles.

Astrid watched all of this from his seat. He hadn’t said anything. He wasn’t sure whether he was actually included in their group. He had only just arrived. He had attacked them. He had nearly killed Rowan. And yet they were preparing for battle right in front of him.

Luna eventually noticed his expression. She walked over and tapped him lightly on the shoulder. "Dude." Astrid looked up. "You’re coming with us, right?"

Astrid froze. "Me?"

"Yes, you."

He glanced toward the others. "But they’re government soldiers." His voice became quieter. "They’ll recognize me. They’ll know I’m alive."

Luna’s lips curled upward. "Not if they’re all dead." Astrid stared at her. Luna crossed her arms. "You have Blood Sovereign now. That makes you extremely useful in a fight."

Astrid swallowed. The name of his ability still felt strange to him—he had barely understood what it could do. "You’re really going to let me fight?"

"I’m not asking you to fight alone." Luna stepped closer. "Stay with us, follow instructions, and don’t randomly attack anyone in the house."

Astrid looked away. "After what I did... you still trust me?"

Luna shrugged. "Trust is a strong word." She smiled. "Let’s call it giving you an opportunity to prove yourself."

Before Astrid could respond, a shimmer passed over his body. He looked down—the system had already begun transforming his clothes. Armor formed around him piece by piece, covering his torso, shoulders, arms, and legs. Unlike the others, his armor carried a deep purple hue that matched his hair. Astrid stared at himself. For the first time since escaping the battlefield, he looked less like a terrified survivor and more like an awakened who actually belonged on one.

He clenched his hands. His blood stirred beneath his skin—a strange sensation. Powerful. Unfamiliar. Luna noticed his expression. "Don’t worry about mastering everything right now." Astrid looked at her. "Just learn enough to survive."

She turned toward the others. "Everyone ready?" One after another, they nodded. Rowan adjusted his armor. Kai cracked his knuckles. Adrian flexed his fingers as faint dimensional energy flickered around them. Ethan rested the enormous bow against his shoulder. Astrid took a slow breath.

Outside, another deafening explosion shook the mountain. The sound traveled through the walls, and dust trembled from the ceiling. Luna looked toward the monitor. The military aircraft was now directly above them. The final creatures were still moving outside. Their time was up.

Luna’s eyes sharpened. "Now we wait." She stared at the screen as the aircraft descended. "Once they step into my territory..." Her smile became cold. "...we show them exactly why they should’ve stayed away."
