Apocalypse Supermarket: My Four Overpowered Husbands Wontstop Hoarding

Chapter 82 The only survivor

Chapter 82: Chapter 82 The only survivor

If someone had told Luna that Astrid would actually make it through alive, she would have called it an utter joke.

The guy didn’t exactly look like someone with strong survivor qualities. He was emotional, easily frightened, and, from what she had seen, had spent most of his time relying on the people around him.

Yet somehow, that same person had survived the nightmare outside.

Worse, he had awakened a power Luna had never seen before.

She stared at the monitor, her expression slowly changing as she watched the last traces of blood disappear into the darkness.

And that ability...

That damn ability was useful.

Blood manipulation was already terrifying on its own, but an ability that allowed someone to control blood in the middle of a battle could become ridiculously powerful.

Especially when combined with what her own men could already do.

"In the name of what is that?" Rowan asked, staring at the monitor as though the screen might suddenly explain everything to him.

Astrid had vanished from the camera feed, and none of them knew where he had gone.

"What the hell was that? Was that actually his blood?" Kai asked, leaning closer to the screen.

Rowan nodded slowly.

"That’s what it looked like."

Ethan had stopped chewing his corned beef.

His attention was completely fixed on the monitor.

A moment ago, the screens had shown the survivors fighting desperately for their lives.

Now?

Nothing.

The only things left in view were destroyed helicopters, blood, scattered equipment, and butchered corpses.

The government was going to receive one hell of a shock when they discovered what had happened to their prized soldiers.

Kai finally broke the silence.

"This is going to backfire on us, Luna. Are you sure the government isn’t already coming? They can’t just send their best soldiers here and then leave them behind. Now that they’re all dead, we’re exposed. And so is this house."

A reasonable silence settled over the room.

Everyone thought about it.

Kai wasn’t wrong.

The government had clearly been searching for something on the island. They had sent helicopters, awakened soldiers, and enough manpower to suggest that this wasn’t some random investigation.

Now almost all of them were dead.

If the government discovered that someone had survived here, they would definitely investigate.

Luna, however, wasn’t particularly worried.

Her eyes lowered toward her hands.

A watch rested around her wrist, one she had recently taken from her space because she needed some way to keep track of time.

Ever since the apocalypse began, the distinction between day and night had become difficult to maintain.

The skies were constantly covered by strange clouds, the weather had become unpredictable, and with all the chaos around them, time itself felt meaningless.

Luna glanced at the watch.

She needed to keep track of it.

She tapped her fingers against the popcorn container.

Then—

Click.

A strange sound came from beneath them.

The floor of the panic room suddenly shifted.

Everyone looked down.

A circular seal appeared in the middle of the room.

It rotated slowly like the blades of a fan before separating from the floor.

"What the—?"

Kai barely had time to react.

The opening suddenly widened.

Something shot upward from beneath it.

THUD!

Astrid landed directly on Kai.

His entire body slammed into the floor, with Astrid sprawled unconscious across his chest.

"OH SHIT! HE’S HERE!"

Kai screamed.

Everyone immediately turned toward him.

"We’re not blind," Rowan snapped. "Why are you screaming like we’re standing three miles away?"

Kai opened his mouth, then shut it.

He glanced around.

Everyone was literally staring at him.

"Right..."

Astrid didn’t move.

He appeared completely unconscious, his clothes torn and covered in blood. His hands were badly injured, and there were several wounds across his body.

Luna smiled slightly.

So he really did make it.

Rowan got to his feet and walked closer, examining Astrid before looking toward the opening in the floor.

Then he turned to Luna.

"You knew that was there?"

Luna casually reached into her bag.

She pulled out a bottle of water and took several long gulps before sighing in satisfaction.

Rowan’s eyes narrowed.

There it was again.

That bag.

Every time someone asked Luna a serious question, she somehow found an excuse to reach inside that ridiculous bag and pull something out.

Water.

Food.

Medicine.

Weapons.

Sometimes things that shouldn’t even fit inside it.

She was obviously distracting them.

And this time, Rowan wasn’t letting her get away with it.

"I’m sure you knew about that place," he said.

Luna lowered the bottle.

"Did I?"

"Yes."

Rowan pointed toward the opening.

"Remember what you said? May the best person win. You deliberately left a way for someone to survive your traps."

A charming smile appeared on his face.

"So you’re not as horrible as you pretend to be after all."

Luna stared at him.

Rowan’s smile widened.

He clearly thought he had won that argument.

If Adrian had been there, he probably would have been celebrating already because he had been convinced that Luna was slowly turning into an evil monster.

Unfortunately for him, Luna wasn’t finished.

Ethan finally spoke.

"But I don’t understand something. If you actually wanted them to survive, why didn’t you just go outside and help them?"

Luna rolled her eyes so hard it almost looked painful.

"Because I don’t know them."

She gestured toward the monitors.

"We got to see exactly who those people were without having to speak to them. We watched how they reacted under pressure, how they treated one another, and what they were willing to do when their lives were at stake."

Her gaze settled on Astrid.

"Call me evil if you want, but the apocalypse doesn’t suddenly make humans trustworthy."

She leaned back.

"Humans have always been capable of being despicable. The difference now is that survival has made it easier for those traits to surface."

Everyone became quiet.

Luna continued.

"And when resources become scarce, those traits are going to become even more common."

She pointed toward Astrid.

"So I wasn’t going to open my doors to strangers simply because they were running from monsters."

Rowan looked at Astrid.

"The best person was the one who found the exit."

Luna nodded.

"And apparently, this handsome fellow was that person."

Rowan’s smile disappeared.

He stared at Luna.

"Seems to me you’re impressed."

Luna raised an eyebrow.

"Maybe."

"You’ve never complimented our appearances like that."

Rowan pointed toward Astrid.

"So what’s so special about him?"

Luna looked at him.

"Are you jealous?"

"No."

"You look jealous."

"I’m not jealous."

"You definitely look jealous."

Rowan’s face twitched.

"I just don’t understand the difference between us and him."

Luna shrugged.

"Maybe I’ll tell you later."

Before she could walk over to examine Astrid, Kai’s voice erupted from the floor.

"Can someone please help me?!"

Everyone looked down.

Kai was still trapped beneath Astrid.

"I’ve been calling you idiots for the last five minutes! This guy is literally lying on my chest!"

Luna stopped.

Kai looked genuinely offended.

"Can someone get him off me? Or heal him? He’s bleeding all over me!"

Luna glanced at Ethan.

"He’s yours."

Ethan sighed.

Of course.

He was the only healer among them.

Being the group’s healer was beginning to feel like a punishment.

"Fine."

He walked toward them and crouched beside Astrid.

"Don’t worry, Kai. I’ll handle it."

"I’m trying not to breathe!"

"You’ll survive."

"That’s easy for you to say!"

Luna smiled.

"Just hang on for a few minutes, Kai. Ethan will heal him."

She gave him a playful wink.

Kai stared at her.

"Why does it have to be my chest?"

Luna tilted her head.

"What?"

"You know exactly what I mean! If you were the one lying there, would you happily let someone collapse on your chest?"

Luna smirked.

"Unless you’re getting tickled there, I don’t see the problem."

Kai’s eyes widened.

"Don’t you dare—"

Luna’s expression became suspiciously innocent.

"Don’t tell me you’re ticklish."

"That’s not the point!"

Ethan ignored them completely and began healing Astrid.

A soft glow spread over his hands as the wounds on Astrid’s body gradually began closing.

Rowan watched the scene through the monitor for a moment before covering his face.

"This is a complete mess."

He wasn’t wrong.

The front yard was practically a battlefield.

The entire porch was covered in blood, destroyed equipment, broken pieces of helicopters, torn clothing, and corpses.

There were pieces of the creatures scattered across the ground as well.

If they left it like that, the smell alone would become unbearable.

And worse, the corpses would eventually become a serious health hazard.

The apocalypse had already created enough problems without them allowing disease to spread inside their own territory.

Luna looked at the monitor.

Then she glanced at Ethan, who was still healing Astrid.

"We’re going to burn everything."

Everyone looked at her.

"All the corpses. The destroyed equipment. Anything contaminated."

She pointed toward Astrid.

"But before we do that, Ethan, finish healing him."

Ethan nodded.

Luna folded her arms.

"And Rowan, you’re helping him."

Rowan blinked.

"Me?"

"Yes, you."

She pointed toward the unconscious Astrid.

"He survived my traps. That makes him our newest problem."

Kai groaned from beneath Astrid.

"Could someone at least move my problem first?"

Luna shrugged.

"Fine."
