Apocalypse Supermarket: My Four Overpowered Husbands Wontstop Hoarding

Chapter 73 Helicopters around.

Chapter 73: Chapter 73 Helicopters around.

Fixing her hair and trying to straighten the curls that had become tangled beyond repair, Luna couldn’t help but think her hair now looked no better than a hornet’s nest. And whose fault was that? Someone had decided she was possessed by an alien. Seriously, what in the whole world could possibly be more ridiculous than that? Luna gave another frustrated tug at her hair before finally giving up.

"His words are pretty valid, though," Ethan said. Luna turned toward him. "After everything we’ve experienced, I wouldn’t be surprised if an alien suddenly jumped out and declared that it’s real. At this point, I wouldn’t even doubt it."

Rowan nodded immediately. "Absolutely."

Luna stared at the two of them. Again. But that was sick. She couldn’t believe these people were actually entertaining Kai’s nonsense.

"I’m sorry about that," Kai finally said, looking somewhat embarrassed. "It’s just that this is new for me. Her kindness feels... wrong. Like I’m witnessing something that shouldn’t be happening."

Luna’s eyes narrowed. She glared at him harder. What in the world was wrong with this punk? Was he seriously saying her words weren’t genuine enough? That was a complete attack on what little dignity she had left.

Adrian, who had been watching the whole exchange, decided to intervene. "Let’s just forget about it. It’s actually kind of cute that Luna showed some compassion toward Rowan." Luna’s eyes twitched. "At least we can agree she’s not a robot after all."

Before Adrian could finish his sentence, Luna shoved him off the couch. "Hey!" Adrian landed awkwardly on the floor. "What in the world? I wasn’t done!"

"You said I’m a robot."

"I said you aren’t one!"

"Robot or not, you can’t sit close to a robot, remember?" Luna pointed toward the other side of the room. "So stand over there and finish whatever you were saying."

Adrian sighed dramatically as he got back to his feet. "Fine."

Kai grinned. "Thank God I’m not the only one who pissed her off."

Adrian shrugged. "And thank goodness I’m not the person who actually called her an alien."

Kai’s smile disappeared. He slowly turned toward Luna. "Yeah..." He rubbed the back of his neck. "Mine was definitely worse."

"Much worse," Ethan added.

Kai glared at him. "Do you want to be next?"

Ethan immediately shut his mouth.

"Can we stop the whole alien, no-alien drama now?" Ethan asked. "Luna, dear, aren’t you going to talk to us? Especially now that everyone is finally here. I think it’s kind of necessary."

Luna leaned comfortably against the couch, resting her head against it. At least Ethan was straightforward. That was probably the only charming quality in that blockhead.

"The evacuation routine is already taking place, I assume." Everyone became attentive. "And that’s exactly why I want us to wait here for a while."

Ethan nodded. "That sounds reasonable."

"But while we’re waiting..." Luna paused. "I want us to go on another raid."

Silence. Absolute silence. The room became so quiet that even the movement from the kitchen seemed to disappear. Ethan slowly lifted a finger and cleaned his ear. Then the other one. He looked around as if checking whether something was blocking his hearing.

"Sorry." He blinked. "Did you say another raid?"

Luna stared at him. "Yes."

"Outside?"

"Obviously."

"Into the world that’s currently filled with monsters, death, collapsing buildings, and whatever other horrible things are crawling around?"

Luna’s expression didn’t change. "Yes."

Ethan stared at her. "Are you fucking kidding me?"

Luna raised an eyebrow. "You’re aware I haven’t finished speaking, right?"

Ethan immediately shut his mouth. He had already been preparing an argument. There was no way he was going to allow Luna to make another reckless decision right after the disaster that had just happened.

"Look, I know what everyone is probably thinking," Luna continued. "And Ethan has already proven without a doubt that I was right about one thing."

Ethan frowned. "What?"

"We don’t have enough supplies." She looked around the room. "And without stockpiling, how exactly do you think all of us are going to survive?"

Nobody answered.

"The reason we even had something to eat earlier is because someone took the initiative to prepare food." Her eyes moved toward the kitchen. "But that food isn’t going to last forever."

Luna’s expression became serious. "We’re six people. Eventually, those supplies will run out." She leaned forward. "And when that happens, what are we supposed to do? Go outside every single day and risk being eaten just to find something to put in our stomachs?"

The men remained silent.

"So where am I wrong?"

Nobody had an answer. The silence became almost unbearable. The only sound came from Kai. He had apparently decided that this was the perfect moment to walk over, pick up a bottle of water, and begin drinking from it. Loudly. Gulp. Gulp. Gulp.

Everyone turned to stare at him. Kai continued drinking. Gulp.

Rowan finally frowned. "Tone that down. You’re not a fish."

Kai stopped. He lowered the bottle. "My bad."

Luna rolled her eyes. "As I was saying..." She ignored him. "This journey is about what’s inside that supermarket."

The men listened.

"From what I can tell, it’s huge. A proper supermarket, probably filled with enough supplies to last us for months." Luna crossed her arms. "The owner is either dead, evacuated, or someone else has taken over the place. Either way, there’s a good chance survivors are already hoarding the goods inside." She paused. "And if those supplies end up in our hands, we won’t have to worry about stockpiling for a very long time."

The men exchanged looks. Adrian was the first to speak. "You said survivors might already be hoarding the goods."

Luna nodded.

"So what happens then?" His expression became serious. "Are we going to steal their means of survival?" He paused. "Or are we going to kill them?"

That was perhaps the most important question anyone had asked. Everyone waited for Luna’s answer. She looked at Adrian. For a moment, she said nothing. It could be a trap. Maybe they would disagree with her answer. But Luna couldn’t deny that it was a good question.

"Do you know the basic rule of survival during an apocalypse?"

Adrian waited.

"Turn off your emotions." Luna’s voice was cold. "So we’re going to raid that fucking supermarket."

Kai’s expression shifted. "And if the people inside are strong enough, they can fight us off."

She shrugged. "But if they’re not?" Her eyes hardened. "The entire store becomes ours."

Kai’s stomach dropped. "Luna..."

"That’s my decision." The words were final.

Kai slowly exhaled. So that was it? Just like that? People who had managed to survive the apocalypse could lose everything because someone stronger decided they wanted their supplies. It didn’t feel right to him.

Luna seemed to read the thought on his face. "The world has already become a place where you’re either the prey or the predator." She looked around at them. "The sooner all of you understand that, the better." Her gaze shifted toward Rowan. "And Rowan knows more about this than any of you. Ask him what happens when you don’t put yourself first."

Rowan lowered his eyes. He knew exactly what she meant.

Luna continued. "I’m not Mother Teresa." She leaned back. "And stop expecting me to become one." Her expression remained completely indifferent. "Saving all of you is already enough trouble. I don’t need to add responsibility for everyone else to my list."

With that, she closed her eyes. The conversation seemed finished. At least, that’s what Kai thought.

A few seconds later, Luna opened her bag and pulled out several cans. She tossed one toward each of them. "Take it." The cans landed in their hands. "Eat. It’s nutritious." Luna settled back into the couch. "One of the better things I’ve eaten."

The men looked down at the cans. Rowan was the first to speak. "Thanks." The others followed. "Thanks, Luna." "Thank you."

Luna simply nodded with her eyes half-closed.

While everyone was still trying to process the upcoming journey, Rowan suddenly turned toward the window. Something had caught his attention. "Wait." He walked closer. "Could the evacuation already be happening?"

Before anyone could respond, a powerful beam of light suddenly swept across the building. The room flashed white. Rowan’s eyes widened. "Shit." He rushed toward the window. "Shit, shit!" Everyone except Luna immediately followed him. "They’re searching the area!" Rowan pointed outside. "I don’t know why they’re here, but there are helicopters everywhere!"

The men crowded around the window. Rowan wasn’t exaggerating. At least ten helicopters were moving through the sky. Huge searchlights were attached to their fronts, sweeping across the flooded streets and ruined buildings.

Adrian narrowed his eyes. "What do you think they’re searching for?"

Luna’s voice drifted from behind them. "Probably the dungeons." Everyone turned. "They must have realized there are multiple dungeons appearing across the planet." She leaned against the couch. "They’re probably trying to find a way to contain them."

Ethan’s expression changed. "So you’re saying they’re trying to figure out whether they can stop the disaster?"

"Probably."

Adrian frowned. "Meaning they’re not ready to abandon the planet."

Luna nodded. "Apparently." She gave a small grin. "Would you look at that. A smarty-pants."

Adrian ignored the insult hidden inside the compliment.

Rowan continued staring through the window. His mind was working through the possibilities. "If they’re assuming the dungeons are the central cause of the disaster, then they’re probably planning to destroy or seal them." He paused. "But what about the zombies?"

Everyone looked at him. "They didn’t come from the dungeons."

Luna nodded. "Exactly." She remained seated. "As far as we know, only we and the two people involved understand how the zombies were created." Her eyes narrowed. "Everyone else is clueless."

"So to them," Rowan continued, "the zombies are probably just another type of creature that escaped from the dungeon."

"Exactly." Luna nodded.

Rowan looked back toward the helicopters. "Then their solution is simple." He swallowed. "Close the dungeons forever."

The group fell silent. Outside, the helicopters continued moving across the sky. Rowan noticed the banners attached to some of them. "That’s the government."

"They must be spending billions on this operation," Ethan muttered.

"And aren’t those people awakened too?" Kai shrugged. "Probably." He crossed his arms. "Maybe they’re using their abilities. They wouldn’t have come all the way here without some kind of plan."

Everyone continued watching the helicopters. Then Kai suddenly blinked. He slowly turned toward Luna. "What’s a dungeon?"

The entire conversation died instantly. Luna stared at him. Everyone else stared at him too. For several seconds, nobody said a word.

Luna slowly raised a hand and pressed it against her forehead. "What am I supposed to do with this dude?"
