As the purple tendrils pulsed under Adrian’s control, his eyes remained fixed on the trembling wall before him. The concrete shuddered violently as it slowly began to hollow out, a dark void taking shape at its center.
At the same time, the shadow looming in the sky grew larger, descending closer to the earth.
The moment Luna finally caught a clear glimpse of it, her blood ran cold.
Mutated beasts had never looked like this.
This was something entirely different.
It resembled a flying dinosaur, only far more grotesque. Massive pincers protruded from its body, while its enormous mouth curved upward like the deadly tail of a scorpion. Its wings stretched across the sky, and its sheer size dwarfed even a passenger plane. Looking at it alone was enough to believe the creature could crush an entire mountain if it wanted to.
Kai stumbled backward.
One look at his face and it seemed as though he was about to wet himself. His eyes widened with every passing second as the horrifying creatures drew closer.
Just as the portal was about to stabilize, Adrian suddenly gasped violently.
He clutched his chest.
Blood trickled from his nose before spilling freely onto the ground.
Luna froze.
Shit.
She had completely forgotten.
Using his ability for too long drained Adrian far more than the others. Every time he exhausted himself, his body demanded even more energy to recover. It had already been a while since any of them had eaten properly.
At this rate...
It would be a miracle if Adrian didn’t collapse before finishing the portal.
"This is a death sentence! We have to run for it!" Rowan shouted.
But before anyone could respond, two of the flying abominations shot toward them with terrifying speed, as though they had finally found the perfect prey.
They weren’t slowing down.
If anything...
They were accelerating.
At the opposite side, the remaining creatures shifted positions and blocked every possible escape route.
Luna’s expression darkened.
The way they moved...
The way they surrounded them...
These things were smart.
Far smarter than any mutated beast she had encountered before.
The apocalypse was trying to kill her once again.
But she had survived too much already.
History wasn’t going to repeat itself.
Not today.
"Kai!" she shouted. "Try your ice! I know you’re exhausted, but I swear I’ll make it up to all of you."
She wasn’t even sure what she could possibly offer.
Yet the moment those words left her mouth, Kai’s eyes sparkled.
He really shouldn’t have looked that happy considering they were only moments away from dying.
Then again...
Kai had never been exactly normal.
He stepped forward until he reached the open ground, raising his gaze toward the darkened sky.
"I’ll buy as much time as possible."
Before he could move, Rowan grabbed his shoulder.
"I can hold them back. Let me do it."
The two were already preparing to argue.
Luna cut them off immediately.
"There are four of those things coming this way. One person handling them alone would be suicide." Her voice became firmer. "These aren’t ordinary zombies. We work together, or we all die. Stop arguing because I refuse to become an example people use after saying we died simply because we couldn’t agree on one thing."
Her words instantly silenced them.
Together they turned toward the approaching monsters.
A deafening screech exploded across the battlefield.
It sounded less like an animal...
And more like the mournful cry of countless dying souls.
The noise pierced directly into their ears, making every one of them wince.
"Oh my days..." Kai muttered weakly. "What are these things? I might actually be the first person in my generation to discover monsters like this."
"DUCK!" Rowan roared.
Without hesitation, everyone threw themselves toward the ground.
A gigantic pincer sliced through the air only inches above their heads.
The force alone created a powerful gust that flattened the surrounding grass.
Luna’s eyes widened.
"Fuck... they’re already here."
She looked between Kai and Rowan.
"I don’t think this is something only the two of you can handle."
Her eyes shifted toward Adrian.
He had already collapsed onto one knee.
His eyelids trembled as they threatened to shut completely.
Luna rushed toward him.
"You two protect the perimeter!" she ordered Kai and Rowan. "I know you both can do it. Make me proud... then let’s finally go home. We’ve done enough."
As soon as those words settled into their hearts, Luna knelt beside Adrian.
His breathing had become dangerously uneven.
"System," she called urgently. "Tell me what’s wrong. I need a complete analysis of his body. What does he need, and what can we do to help him? I need it now."
Ding.
A glowing panel materialized before her.
A beam of pale blue light swept across Adrian’s body from head to toe.
Moments later, the diagnosis appeared.

[Host detected severe blood loss.]
[Critical iron deficiency detected.]
[Extreme fatigue caused by prolonged stress.]
[Recommendation: Immediate rest, blood recovery, nutritional replenishment.]
Luna’s eyes widened.
He was their only hope of escaping this cursed place.
"There has to be something..." she muttered.
"I won’t let us die here. Not when everything has been going according to plan."
Her gaze drifted toward Ethan’s unconscious body lying not too far away.
Her jaw clenched.
If he had agreed earlier...
If he hadn’t wasted their precious time...
They would have escaped already.

One of the monstrous pincers descended toward his skull.
He twisted sideways at the last possible moment.
The attack narrowly missed.
At the same time, freezing mist erupted from both of his hands.
The ice instantly condensed into dozens of razor-sharp spears.

The frozen weapons shot upward like a storm.
Yet the creature merely folded its wings and darted through the barrage with unbelievable speed.

The two monsters broke free.

Their enormous pincers sliced through the air as they dived toward her at horrifying speed.
Luna looked up helplessly.
Kai saw everything.
"LUNA!"
He tried to move.
He truly did.
But the other two monsters kept him completely occupied.
The slightest mistake would cost him his head.
Every strike they made targeted his neck, face, or skull.
He was barely keeping up.
"Luna! In front of you!"
But it was already too late.
The monsters reached her.
One raised its enormous claw.
Its pincers opened wide.
The air itself seemed to split apart as it slashed downward—
