Kai got ready, spending no more than thirty minutes in the bathroom. After putting on a plain shirt, dark pants, and his boots, he walked down the staircase while humming quietly to himself.

The moment he stepped onto the veranda, his humming stopped.

His eyes widened.

The gigantic amphibious vehicle stood there waiting for them.

He paused.

Did the vehicle get even bigger?

Or... had Luna enhanced it again?

A strange fear crept into his heart.

What if he failed to control his ice powers properly?

What if she threw him into that terrifying sea again?

"What are you staring at?"

The sharp voice jolted him out of his thoughts, making him clutch his chest.

"Take it easy!" Kai complained. "With a voice like yours, I’m sure you can scare the monsters away by yourself."

Luna didn’t react.

Instead, she tossed something at him.

Kai caught it on instinct.

It was a pair of boots.

"Take off that rag under your feet," she ordered.

Kai blinked before looking down at his worn-out boots.

Then he looked back at Luna.

"I thought we were going shopping again."

He lifted one brow.

"Or am I the one who’s confused here?"

Luna placed both hands on her hips before glaring at him.

"For fuck’s sake, can you at least try to keep up?"

Kai scratched the back of his neck awkwardly.

She really had a talent for insulting people without even trying.

"And if my voice can chase monsters away," Luna continued, "wouldn’t that be convenient?"

She tilted her head.

"Or should I just use you as bait to lure them out?"

Kai immediately shook his head.

Ignoring him, Luna suddenly began moving both hands over different parts of her clothes.

"What are you doing?"

He looked around in confusion.

"At least you’ve noticed something useful since coming here."

She continued making strange movements.

"I’m installing the equipment we’ll be using."

He stared at her empty hands.

"The devices are integrating themselves into my clothes."

She glanced at him briefly.

"When you enter the vehicle, yours will attach automatically."

His eyes slowly widened.

Luna dusted off her hands.

Seeing his reaction, Luna rolled her eyes.

She pointed toward the vehicle.

"Now get your dumbass over here."

Kai let out the breath he’d unknowingly been holding.

The vehicle doors slowly opened by themselves.

Kai swallowed nervously before stepping inside.

His heartbeat became louder with every step.

Suddenly, another holographic window appeared.

The system automatically switched over to a news broadcast.

A neatly dressed reporter forced a smile toward the camera.

"Good day, everyone."

"We have wonderful news."

"The rain has finally stopped."

"We only need to endure a little sunlight."

"Our rescue teams are still searching for survivors."

"Please remain calm."

"We will overcome this together."

Luna watched him quietly.

His words sounded encouraging.

She could practically hear the fear hidden beneath his voice.

It was obvious.

Even he didn’t believe the script he had been ordered to read.

The scenery suddenly changed.

Right in front of them stood an enormous wall.

It stretched so high it almost touched the dark sky.

Floodwater surrounded it from every direction like a giant moat.

Armed guards could barely be seen standing on top.

Kai slowly swallowed.

He pointed ahead.

"...that the safe zone?"

Luna nodded once.

"So that’s where they’ve gathered everyone."

Kai stared at it uneasily.

"I don’t like this."

A strange feeling settled inside his chest.

"I don’t think we’re getting back out once we enter."

"I’m feeling something really ominous."
