Chapter 337: Improving the Clinic
Chapter 337: Chapter 337: Improving the Clinic
"Is one time going to be enough? I heard Boss Hart’s next stop is Phanfly Base. What a coincidence—I’m a survivor from there! I’m going to start saving up Crystal Cores right now! I’m going to scratch to my heart’s content all at once!"
"To the person above, how do you know Boss Hart’s itinerary?"
"Never you mind about that. Just wait and see if I’m right when the time comes!"
Lily Hart read through the comments one by one, silently adding the clinic to her list of must-replicate projects.
You could only get Crystal Cores by going out to kill zombies, which meant risking injury.
That meant they needed treatment, which was where the clinic came in handy. Anyone who had Crystal Cores on them would want to go in and lie down for a while.
Instead of just toughing it out.
Having won the clinic, Roman Rowe was so pleased with himself he was practically floating. He walked everywhere with his head held high and his chest puffed out.
He stayed inside for the entire afternoon without coming out. When Lily Hart went to check on him, he would greet her with a huge smile.
"Hi, Boss Hart! How are you~?" Roman Rowe greeted her cheerfully, his hand waving faster than a Lucky Cat’s paw.
"Speak properly," Lily Hart said, crossing her arms and glaring at him.
All three Treatment Pods were full, and a line of injured people was already forming.
’This... won’t do.’
’What if someone is critically injured? They could kick the bucket just waiting a few minutes... What then?’
’And then someone would rage at the clinic, calling it inflexible for making a critically injured patient wait in line so long that they died without treatment!’
Lily Hart had a knack for imagining the worst-case scenarios. The thought sent a shiver of fear through her. ’I can’t let that happen,’ she thought. ’It would be bad for the patients and for the clinic’s reputation.’
She went over to discuss it with Roman Rowe, who was behind the cashier’s counter. "This system isn’t going to work. Look at that patient over there. His breathing is faint; he clearly can’t wait that long."
Roman Rowe followed her finger. The patient was lying on the floor. The flesh of his thigh was mangled and exposed, even showing signs of decay and emitting a putrid smell.
It looked like it had been caused by contact with some kind of poisonous plant.
If he wasn’t treated in time, he’d probably have to have the whole leg amputated.
Roman Rowe added, "Yeah, I saw a superpower user in the same situation once. He didn’t get help in time, and they had to amputate his entire leg..."
Lily Hart said resolutely, "Exactly. So, we need to prioritize patients based on the severity of their injuries. What do you think?"
"I think that’s a great idea!" Roman Rowe shot to his feet, his eyes filled with the determination of a soldier heading into battle.
"That’s the spirit." Lily Hart patted his shoulder encouragingly. "Alright, let’s see if that software of yours has a feature for this."
Despite being a grown man, Roman Rowe’s knees buckled from the pat, and he fell right back into his chair.
Lily Hart burst out laughing. She walked behind the counter and hauled him back to his feet. After reaching Level 6, she was as strong as an ox.
Before Roman Rowe could even process what happened, he was on his feet again, staring at her blankly. She chewed him out, "Hurry up, buddy! Stop dawdling!"
He quickly opened his Light Brain, where there was an app named [Lily Hart]. This was another new feature since she reached Level 6: all the shops had been integrated into a single application.
When he opened it, however, he could only see the page for his own shop. Only Lily Hart had full administrative privileges.
A floor plan of the clinic popped up on the screen. In the small space, three Treatment Pods were arranged in a row, with the cashier’s counter near the entrance.
And that was it.
Lily Hart reached past his hand and tapped the settings button.
A host of options appeared, such as adjusting the position of the Treatment Pods or the counter, adding furniture, or adding new features.
She then tapped the "Add Feature" button. As expected, another page popped up, showing many features that could be added, though most were grayed out.
The first available function was "Screening," and she tapped on it.
The description read: *Screens the severity of a customer’s injuries upon entry and assigns them to a Treatment Pod. Critically injured patients have priority access.*
Lily Hart tapped "Activate."
The next second, they both looked up at the entrance.
A green caterpillar appeared on the doorframe. It was inching its way up the frame, its large eyes gazing at the customers coming in and scanning them with incredible speed.
Afterward, guiding arrows appeared on the floor at each customer’s feet.
They could only follow the arrows and were unable to go to any other Treatment Pod.
And as for the customer with the mangled thigh, the two lightly injured patients who had been ahead of him in line were now automatically moved behind him.
He just had to wait for one of the patients currently in a Treatment Pod to finish, and then he could go in for treatment.
Fortunately, every injured person had someone with them. Those who couldn’t move were either being held up by others or sitting on the floor.
But Lily Hart felt this still wasn’t enough. ’What if someone doesn’t have any friends?’ she worried. ’What if they barely make it here, only to be unable to get treatment because no one is around to help them inside?’
’Wouldn’t all their effort have been for nothing?’
She huddled with Roman Rowe again for a bit and added a feature that automatically helped patients into the Treatment Pods. That way, no one would need to be carried.
’Much more convenient!’
"Hey! I was waiting in line just fine! How did I get sent to the back?!" a customer inside the clinic shouted indignantly.
The moment Roman Rowe heard this, he immediately pulled a few bags of snacks from his dimensional storage, dashed out, and stuffed them into the man’s arms. "Please understand, sir! He’s badly hurt. He’ll die if he doesn’t get treatment right away. Please take this as compensation."
The customer, his arms now full of snacks, saw Roman’s earnest attitude and didn’t have the heart to say anything more. Besides, his own injuries were minor, so he decided not to make a fuss.
Roman Rowe gave him a thumbs-up. "You’re a class act, sir!"
The customer huffed. "You bet. I’m not going to argue about it. Just consider it me doing a good deed!"
Roman Rowe grinned at him, then scurried around distributing a few bags of snacks to all the other customers who had been moved back in line. It’s hard to stay angry at someone after accepting their gifts.
And just like that, the complaints died down.
After handing out the snacks, Roman Rowe dashed back behind the counter and shot Lily Hart a look, raising his eyebrows. "So? Not bad, right?"
Lily Hart gave him a thumbs-up in return. "You’re getting better and better~" ’To think he calmed everyone down with just a few bags of snacks.’
She stayed in the clinic for a while longer. Seeing that everything was gradually starting to run smoothly, she finally felt relieved. Just as she was about to leave, she saw Frost Shaw walk in.
"Well, well~" Lily Hart stopped and called out in a teasing tone by way of greeting. Frost Shaw smiled back at her.
"I came to take a look," Frost Shaw said. His eyes swept over the small clinic, his hands clasped behind his back as if he owned the place.
Roman Rowe darted out from behind the counter and threw his arms around Frost Shaw, exclaiming, "What are you doing here, man?"
In truth, Frost Shaw had been worried. It was Roman Rowe’s first time managing a shop, and he was worried someone might try to cause trouble, knowing Roman had no experience dealing with such things.
As soon as he finished his work at the convenience store, he had rushed over to check things out. But he was always too proud to admit his real intentions.
This time was no exception. "Tch. I just came to see if you were going to ruin Boss Hart’s reputation."
Roman Rowe instantly let go of his shoulder. "You... you never have a single nice thing to say, do you?"
With that, they both huffed and simultaneously whipped their heads to the side.
Watching them, Lily Hart felt both exasperated and amused. ’After all,’ she thought, ’Frost Shaw is perfectly polite to everyone else.’
