Chapter 78: Bai Yue Arrives at the Bai Family
Once the three arrived at the Bai family, Bai Yue was amazed by the size of her family's territory.
Calling it large would be an understatement, as it was the size of several cities. There were buildings everywhere, and one couldn't even see the edge of the territory just by looking.
Surrounding the city were mountains and several lakes, which gave the territory a refreshing atmosphere. Everything Bai Yue saw showed her just how large the Bai family actually was.
Already used to the scene, Bai Yanfei led the way, as she was familiar with the territory. Bai Yue soon snapped out of her amazement and followed her mother, with Jiang Yun close behind.
Bai Yanfei was heading towards the main hall where the patriarch of the Bai family resided. The head of the family was Bai Yanfei's father and the only one who cared about her and Bai Yue's well-being.
Bai Yanfei had come to the Bai family for this purpose, as she was curious about current events since it had been years since she was last back.
Another reason was that Bai Yanfei wanted to introduce Bai Yue to her grandfather, since they hadn't seen each other since Bai Yue was a baby.
With her attention focused on her goal, Bai Yanfei tried to quickly lead the way to where the patriarch was.
Unfortunately, while the three were traveling through the Bai family territory, they were stopped by a young man with short pink hair. Standing next to the young man was an older man who bore a strong resemblance to him.
Wondering why they were being stopped, Bai Yue wanted to ask, but before she could, Bai Yanfei spoke first.
"Why are you blocking our way?" Bai Yanfei asked, glaring angrily at the older man. "You know I'm here on important business, so why are you stopping me?"
"What business is more important than greeting your older brother first?" the older man mocked. "You have been gone for so long that we might as well have assumed you were dead."
"Bai Hao!" Bai Yanfei yelled. "Do you even still consider me your sister? You have been against me my whole life."
"Of course I'm still your brother, so show me the respect that I deserve."
"Do you think you are worthy of respect? Get out of the way while I'm still asking you nicely."
"Or what? Are you going to fight me on our family's territory? You think too highly of yourself."
"Then what exactly do you want me to do?"
"Bow to me and grovel. If I'm pleased, I'll let you pass. Not to mention, I can't just let you come and go as you please with the country bumpkins behind you."
"How dare you call them country bumpkins! This girl right here is my daughter."
"How was I supposed to know when that girl looks so poor? She really takes after her mother in being so low-class."
Unable to contain her anger any longer, Bai Yanfei decided to lash out. Before Bai Hao could react, Bai Yanfei slapped him hard across the face, sending him flying through the air before he landed face-first on the ground.
"Father!" the young man next to Bai Hao yelled, rushing over after seeing his father get slapped so far away.
"Is that respectful enough for a piece of trash like you?" Bai Yanfei fumed angrily. "If you don't get out of the way, my next slap won't be so light."
"How dare you hit me!" Bai Hao yelled, having just been utterly humiliated. "Do you think I'll let this go just because you're my sister?"
"What could you possibly do to me? Haven't you noticed that I'm far stronger than you now?"
"What are you talking about? Aren't you just a measly True Immortal?"
As Bai Hao finished speaking, he suddenly realized something as he looked at Bai Yanfei. The aura she was giving off was very dangerous, as her realm had clearly surpassed his.
"Wait..." Bai Hao said in shock. "How come I can't see your cultivation level anymore? You can't possibly have reached the Immortal King realm..."
Bai Hao was completely stunned, as his Golden Immortal realm senses couldn't gauge how strong Bai Yanfei was.
"What's wrong, Father?" the young man asked, helping his father up. "My aunt couldn't have gotten strong enough to shock you in just the few years she's been away."
Bai Hao remained silent, as he wasn't sure himself, knowing there existed methods to conceal one's cultivation level in this world.
Seeing that Bai Hao had quieted down, Bai Yanfei decided to ignore him and continue toward the main hall where the patriarch was.
Bai Hao followed close behind, still unable to accept what had just happened, but he didn't dare risk making a move just yet.
Unbothered, Bai Yanfei continued to lead Bai Yue and Jiang Yun toward their destination.
Once the three finally arrived, Bai Yue was shocked once again by the size of the Bai family's main building, which was the size of a small city. Guarding the entrance were several guards at the Earth Immortal realm.
Accustomed to everything, Bai Yanfei continued to walk forward without being stopped. Despite not being well-liked by most of her family, Bai Yanfei still held status within the clan.
Passing through the entrance, the guards, though not stopping their path, gave hostile glances toward Jiang Yun and Bai Yue, as they were strangers who had never been seen before.
Ignoring them, the three continued inward until they finally arrived at the main hall.
Walking in, the first thing Bai Yue saw was an elderly man with long white hair and a short white beard. This man was sitting directly at the center, demonstrating that he was the one in charge.
"Father," Bai Yanfei greeted, having finally returned. "I have brought my daughter back to meet you."
"Bring her closer," the patriarch of the Bai family commanded.
Following the command, Bai Yanfei brought Bai Yue forward to greet her grandfather.
Since it seemed her mother had a good impression of this elderly man, Bai Yue felt it was right to be respectful.
"Grandfather," Bai Yue greeted, still slightly unsure of how to address him.
"Good child," the patriarch of the Bai family said. "I'm very pleased that you still recognize me as your grandfather. Since you are my granddaughter, no one can harm you now that you are here, or my name isn't Bai Peng."
Listening to her grandfather's reassurances, Bai Yue felt that this man wasn't a bad person. This overturned her impression of the Bai family after her unpleasant encounter with her uncle not long ago.
While Bai Peng was still observing his granddaughter, he was suddenly shocked by what he noticed.
"How can it be that you are already at the early stage of the Immortal King realm?" Bai Peng asked in astonishment. "And how is your mother also at the early stage of the Immortal King realm? Is reaching the Immortal King realm that easy for young people these days?"
"It's all thanks to my benefactor," Bai Yanfei replied. "This man right here is Jiang Yun, and he has helped us greatly to reach this point."
"Are you sure it is due to this man?" Bai Peng asked curiously. "I can't feel any energy fluctuations from him despite being at the peak Immortal King realm, so I'm fairly certain he is just a mortal."
"It's true," Bai Yanfei explained. "He may look weak to you, but his strength is limitless."
Still unsure of his daughter's claims, Bai Peng wanted to test it out. He began releasing a wave of Immortal energy toward Jiang Yun.
Bai Peng wanted to see if Jiang Yun could withstand the pressure, as he still couldn't believe Jiang Yun could be powerful with no detectable energy fluctuations.
Once the Immortal energy made contact, Bai Peng fully expected Jiang Yun to crumble under the weight. To his surprise, nothing happened as Jiang Yun still stood firmly on his feet. It was as if the energy had simply vanished.
Still refusing to believe what was happening, Bai Peng increased the amount of energy he exerted and directed it all toward Jiang Yun. This time as well, nothing happened.
Having his pride stung, Bai Peng prepared to use his full power, but he was interrupted before he could proceed.
"What are you doing?!" Bai Yanfei yelled at her father. "He is my benefactor, so how could you try to harm him?"
"I only wanted to see if he was truly as you claimed," Bai Peng replied, quickly regaining his composure. "I believe you now, so I won't test him again."
Reassured, Bai Yanfei dropped the matter since her father had conceded.
"Now tell me what you have come here for," Bai Peng asked, turning his attention back to Bai Yanfei. "You didn't come all this way just to introduce your daughter to me, right?"
"You are correct, and I have something to discuss with you. I wanted to ask how things have been going with our enemies since I've been gone. I want to deal with them now, as I believe we finally have enough power to end things once and for all."
