A Person with Morals gets Transported to Another World [LitRPG] [Satire]

Chapter 54 – To be an Old Man you need Old Mannerisms

I stretched my legs and said, “Now that we’ve accessed the belltower, I suppose I should try to complete the Explorer quest.”

[Explorer Quest: Visit all places of interest within the King’s city.]

“With the map unlocked, I should have no trouble at all with touring all the important locations.” If I were quick, I could probably get to them all by the end of the day.

Penrin leant against one of the supporting pillars of the belfry. “If that’s all you’re going to do for the rest of the day, I’m going to attend my classes. Newmill and I have already completed the quest, so it would be a waste of time for us to accompany you.”

Newmill looked as if he wanted to stay but couldn’t refute Penrin’s words. “I suppose I should also go back to my studies.”

“Sounds good,” I said. “Hopefully, I’ll explore everything today and we can meet up tomorrow to do some quests at the guild.”

Newmill nodded but Penrin shook her head. She said, “Bad news. Tomorrow I’m going to be busy all day. I won’t be able to see either of you.”

“Aww, that’s a shame.” I was a little sad that I wouldn’t be able to spend time with her, but I was more sad that she wouldn’t be around to defeat tough monsters for me. “What about you, Newmill?”

“I don’t have any plans. I’ll meet you at your home, same time as usual,” Newmill said.

That was encouraging. The two of us could probably handle a quest or two by ourselves. And if we couldn’t, we could run away.

“I’ve got some more bad news,” said the half-bird. “It’s my day off tomorrow, so I won’t be able to see you lot either.”

The three of us looked at the groundskeeper dumbfounded. Did she think she was part of the group or something?

“Who cares?” I asked.

“How rude.” The half-pigeon brushed her shoulders with her wings and made an exit by jumping off the side of the belltower.

“I thought you said you didn’t like flying?” I shouted as she escaped my vision. I sped to the edge of the platform to catch the half-bird in a lie, but instead I saw her using an umbrella as a parachute to glide to the ground. “Touché, pigeon. Touché.”

The rest of us also split up and went our separate ways. Now that I was alone, I put on the disguise that had been crafted for me. When on the streets, I saw my reflection while passing by a window and I was startled by just how much I resembled my former self.

The only difference was my height. To fix that, I decided to stop by Mushy’s shop to buy some stilts. On the way there, I was given many respectful glances by the general public. They all saw me as a man, not as a child. They knew I had the maturity of adulthood and so they treated me appropriately. I wasn’t condescended to. No one pitied me. They insulted me as though I was an equal to them in age.

“Look at that ugly fella. Why is he so short?”

“Is he a half-dwarf or something?”

“No, I think he’s a human with a growth deficiency of some sort.”

“How can someone be so short, yet so wide?” Laughter came from the group who made that remark.

The people of this world were so unkind. Well, once I got my stilts, these comments about my height would end. The comments about my looks would remain, though.

It took some time, but I finally made it to Mushy’s shop. Thankfully, it was open. Chimes jingled as I stepped inside.

“Welcome, sir,” Mushy said, oblivious to my real identity.

I looked through her shop and found a nice set of stilts to use. The variety of Mushy’s shop was impressive. It seemed like she had anything and everything that anyone could ever wish for.

I took the stilts to the counter and said, “These, please.”

Mushy’s eyes widened. “Is that my favourite little assistant?” She lifted me from across the counter and hugged me tightly. The dangly hair strands from her cap tickled my face.

“How did you know it was me?” I asked, my voice muffled from the hug.

“Even if you’re in costume, I could never forget your voice.”

That was right! How could I forget that I needed to speak like a 45-year-old man too? Just looking the part was not enough. I had to have the speech patterns of an older man and to act like one as well. “Mushy, can you help me practice my voice? I want to sound much older than I do.”

“Of course! I’d be happy to help, little one. Did you get a role in a school play?”

And back came the infantilisation.
