Chapter 647: Goren & Vienna
Chapter 647: Goren & Vienna
The Third Supreme didn’t even raise an eyebrow at the incoming attacks.
A deep pulse came from the orb… and then a violent wave of red lightning shot outward in all directions.
The Fiends exploded mid-air, not from their talismans, but from the lightning tearing their bodies apart. Their scattered pieces rained down, burning before they touched the ground.
He continued moving with calm steps, never speeding up or slowing down.
Finally, after another long walk and several more turns through the mist, the fog thinned a little.
Ahead of him stood a massive figure.
The Second Order Demon Tree towered over the land, its roots spread wide and its branches curled like twisted arms reaching for the sky. Its bark glowed faintly with dark green lines. Its presence felt alive—angry, even.
This was the first time anyone other than Aksai had managed to get this close to the Demon Tree used in the formation.
This tree was the child of the original Demon Tree that followed Aksai, and although it was not as powerful, its aura was still fierce.
It worked just like a regular Demon Tree. Its only disadvantage was that it could not grow stronger than its parent. Or rather, for the child Demon Tree to grow stronger, the parent Demon Tree needed to keep evolving and getting stronger as well.
The Demon Tree at the center of the formation sensed the intruder and acted in haste, creating a small earthquake in the region.
Hundreds of roots shot up at once. Dozens of vines lashed toward him like giant whips.
More Sentient Fiends spilled out from the earth beneath the Demon Tree, their eyes glowing with the tree’s will.
The Third Kalingoot Supreme stopped walking. He raised the red-black orb in one hand once again. It was as if all the Third Supreme could do was rely on his orb. However, one could not really complain much seeing the effectiveness of the trick.
Chirp. Chrip. Chirp.
The volatile electricity sounded like the chirping of a thousand birds.
Red lightning burst out again—thick, loud, violent. It tore through roots and vines, shattering them. Sentient Fiends were ripped apart before they even reached him. The air flashed red again and again as the orb did all the work.
The Demon Tree roared, shaking its branches, sending even heavier attacks at him.
But the man did not step back, did not hurry, did not show fear.
He moved forward slowly, one foot at a time, destroying everything sent at him with the same single tool—the black-red orb pulsing in his hand.
A half-step Core Formation Lord with a borrowed Spirit Core finally came face to face with a Second Order Demon Tree. At this point, with its defenses broken, the Demon Tree had no choice but to face him directly.
The Third Supreme raised the orb, and a powerful wave burst out of it. The shock tore through the surrounding roots and branches, breaking apart everything the tree had put up in its panic. The air shook. Leaves burned. Bark cracked open.
The Demon Tree sensed danger. It understood something very simple: it could not win. Although it did not have a very developed consciousness, it still had good instincts. And its primal instincts screamed at it that it needed to get as far away from its enemy as possible.
A deep vibration ran through the ground. Thick cardinal roots pulled themselves free from the soil, rising like giant legs. The massive tree wanted to run. It had no pride left—only survival.
But the Third Supreme didn’t give it a chance. This time, he decided to make use of his Spirit spell.
He took one sharp step forward. His Spirit Sense flared. In the next breath, hundreds of red lightning-element swords appeared around him in a wide circle.
Each sword was five meters long, glowing with violent, condensed lightning. They hummed with destruction, bright enough to paint the entire area red.
The Third Supreme lowered his hand.
The swords moved.
All of them shot toward the Demon Tree at the same time from every direction. They pierced through bark, roots, and branches.
Explosions rang out again and again as the lightning spread through the tree’s body. The Demon Tree shook wildly, its legs collapsing back into the ground.
But the attack was not over.
The Supreme raised his hands again. The red orb vanished into his strange ring. His fingers moved quickly, forming one hand sign after another. Sparks gathered in front of him, twisting and shaping themselves.
A single sword of pure lightning formed—silent, sharp, and unreal. It looked like an elemental sword, but it was not. This one was a spiritual attack.
The Demon Tree was already badly injured by the barrage. Its body was cracked, its roots trembling. It had even shrunk in size by this point.
At first, it had reduced its size to guard itself from the rampant lightning attacks. But later, the size shrank even more because the tree no longer had the Spirit essence reserves needed to maintain its towering form.
It also could not absorb essence from the Second Order Island Vein quickly enough to recover. The spiritual attack was prepared with this in mind.
The ghost mentor who had taken control of the Third Supreme’s body had rightly said that the Demon Tree would be vulnerable to spiritual attacks under the right circumstances. The Third Supreme had also conserved his strength, making use of his overpowering Third Order Spirit spell at the right time.
So when the ethereal lightning sword flew toward it, the tree had no strength left to dodge. When it was physically weak, it was also at its most vulnerable mentally.
The sword entered the tree without sound.
It did not cut. It did not burn. It simply disappeared inside.
For a moment, nothing happened.
Then the Demon Tree froze.
Its branches stopped shaking. Its slithering roots stopped moving. Its glow faded. The spiritual sword had struck its mind.
The Demon Tree’s consciousness had been destroyed in an instant.
And with it, the entire protective formation collapsed.
The dome of vines and wood over the island broke apart. The gray mist thinned and drifted away. The strange pressure that blocked outsiders from entering Emerald Cove vanished completely.
For the first time since Aksai had claimed this place, Emerald Cove stood unprotected.
Open. Vulnerable. And exposed to the world.
The formation broke and it was as if someone had snapped their fingers and changed the scenery around them.
The Third Supreme stood on the lonely cliff as the last strands of gray mist thinned out and drifted away. He watched quietly, a small smile spreading across his pale face. For the first time since entering the formation, the view before him was clear.
The land below opened up like a long-hidden painting.
What once looked like the very center of the island was now revealed to be nothing more than an abandoned cliff far from the real core of Emerald Cove.
The gray mist had twisted his sense of direction, hiding the true shape of the island and shifting the landmarks. Now that the formation was gone and the mist had fully dispersed, he could see everything without obstruction.
Terraced hills. Spirit herbs glimmering with faint colors. Neatly grown medicinal fields. Several rare plants protected by small individual array formations. The protective measures were very good, but in his eyes, they weren’t worth much.
A pseudo Core Formation Lord did not bother unraveling the protective formation step by step with such small defenses. He could just destroy them using his brute force.
“Hehehe. This… this island is good. It should serve me well as my cultivation abode.”
He let out a satisfied laugh, already considering the island to be his.
Then he slowly turned around.
Standing behind him on the flattened cliff path were Emerald Cove’s core defenders. Their faces were grim and tense.
Ruan stood at the front, his jaw tight. Shuan was beside him with his spear ready. Violet, Zara, and Ivy had taken fighting stances, Spirit essence already circulating through their meridians.
Behind them stood two more figures.
A young man with blackish-red hair and sharp red eyes. His build was wide and powerful, but his face still carried a young man’s features. His name was Goren.
Next to him stood a blonde young woman with light gray eyes. Vienna. Calm, quiet, and alert.
Both looked no older than their late teens in mortal years, yet their auras carried the unmistakable pressure of newly advanced Foundation Establishment Experts.
Their Spirit essence was still unstable, flickering like fresh flames. It was clear they had only broken through a few days ago.
These two were the two winners from the old regional competitions Aksai and Nuya held. The ones chosen for their raw talent, regardless of who their parents were.
Aksai’s system had helped them rise step by step—resource missions, contributions, rewards, and hard work. They earned every step of their way to this point.

AN: Goren and Vienna were introduced as participants in the island competition in Chapter 218. Aksai takes these two into his calculations when he talks about the core strength of the Emerald Cove in his absence in Chapter 574.
