Chapter 644: Kalingoot’s Origins P2
Chapter 644: Kalingoot’s Origins P2
Even Heebyuk, lying half-dead, recognized the rhythm.
It was the chain-explosion pattern of Kalingoot ships.
His eyes widened as he listened—boom after boom, each one following the last like someone had arranged fireworks in a perfect line. Every blast showed another ship being destroyed, along with the siege weapons they carried.
He couldn’t see the sea from where he was… but he didn’t need to.
By the time the final explosion echoed across the land, Heebyuk’s face had lost all color. The entire siege fleet—gone.
Shuan grinned proudly.
“Master Aksai arranged all this before he started his closed-door cultivation,” Shuan said with pride. “My master always prepares for the worst first. He plans… and plans… and then plans again. Honestly, it’s tiring for someone like me who acts on impulse. But in the end, he is always right.”
Shuan looked at Heebyuk with bright eyes.
“You lost the first round of the battle in the worst way possible. And trust me… your next moves? Already countered.”
He lifted his saber.
“No matter how long you drag this war… we are ready to greet you with open arms.”
He smiled.
“And bigger explosives.”
Before Heebyuk could react, Shuan’s saber flashed.
Heebyuk screamed as his arms and legs were severed in clean strikes. Blood splashed onto the dirt, and his entire body shook in shock. His eyes went wide, filled with terror and pain.
Shuan wiped the blade on Heebyuk’s torn clothes.
“One more thing,” he added casually. “My master always says—when the enemy tries to talk, assume they are stalling to use their trump cards. So I should pretend to chat with them… let them think they have time… let them fall back on their secret plans.”
Shuan pointed the saber at Heebyuk’s bleeding stumps.
“And when the moment is right… cut off their limbs so they can’t use anything.”
He laughed softly.
“Well… master was right once again. You were planning to use your trump cards, weren’t you?
“You know. I kind of like taking risks. I feel that it is a way to show off one’s warrior spirit. As such, I might have let you try. Alas…. My master’s teachings are absolute. I fear he would punish me even harder than you ever could if he learned that I went easy on you.”
Heebyuk stared up at him, pale as paper, his face twisted in fear and disbelief—not knowing if the shaking in his body came from shock, blood loss, or the horror of realizing he had been played from the start.
Heebyuk then came to terms with the fact that his limbs were gone, his blood was pooling beneath him, and his life was slipping away fast.
Yet, as Shuan stood over him with a cold expression, Heebyuk suddenly began to laugh again. It was a low, broken laugh—wet with blood and pain—but it was still a laugh.
Shuan frowned. Even dying men usually begged. This one laughed.
Heebyuk no longer struggled or tried to reach for hidden tricks. His body had already given up. But his eyes… his eyes burned strangely as he stared at Shuan.
“It… it seems we underestimated you,” he said in a hoarse voice. “We underestimated the forces of Emerald Cove. But most of all… we underestimated the man behind you all… Aksai Everwood.”
A small smile crawled onto his face, but it wasn’t a peaceful one. It was eerie—almost sickening—making him look far more sinister than he ever had in battle.
“We thought he was a coward… hiding in his closed-door cultivation… refusing to answer our taunts even when his island was at risk from all sides.”
He coughed, blood spilling down his chin.
“But we never imagined… his plans ran so deep. Destroying the entire fleet of Kalingoot in one go… after we spent months preparing it… deserves applause… hehe… but…”
His breath wavered. His chest rose and fell like it was struggling to obey him. Still, he sucked in one last large breath and continued.
“But do you think… we were the only ones who underestimated our enemies?”
Shuan narrowed his eyes.
“What do you mean? If you’re talking about the rest of the Kalingoot army—”
Heebyuk cut him off with a weak shake of his head and a mocking look.
“Don’t misunderstand. Kalingoot’s army… yes, you can probably hold them back for a while. Your planning is decent. Your traps are deadly. Maybe the war would go on for months… or years… before either side wins.”
His smile widened.
“But in wars like this… armies don’t matter. What matters… is the ones who command them.”
Shuan’s face tightened.
Heebyuk let out a thin, rattling laugh.
“The leaders of Kalingoot have stayed hidden until now… because they don’t want to draw the attention of the Core Formation Lords from the Big Five Sects… or the two Core Formation Lords of the Three Major Demonic Sects.
“But now…. Cough cough cough… now that you’ve shown the world… that Kalingoot’s army has been crushed in such a way in its first attempt, you must have hurt their egos that are supposed to be as big as their cultivation bases.”
His voice weakened further, like each word dragged him closer to death.
“They will be forced… to move. And when they do… do you really think… you can stand against them…?”
Shuan’s brows rose. “You mean—”
Heebyuk didn’t let him finish.
“That’s right…” he whispered, voice fading fast.
“The three leaders of Kalingoot… are all newly ascended Core Formation Lords. The true roots of Kalingoot… the heirs of the ancient cultivators who ruled the Third Order Cave filled with ghosts and yin energy…
Those monsters were the ones who ordered us to unify the seas of the Dadangar Subcontinent…”
The bald man shuddered. His breath trembled. He was almost gone.
“If the army fails… they will come. And I… I would have enjoyed watching you struggle… against them. But…”
He exhaled a long, dying breath.
“…unfortunately… I’m going first…”
A weak chuckle escaped him.
“Hehehe… I’ll… wait in the afterlife… for you to join me…”
His head finally slumped to the side. His chest stopped moving.
Heebyuk was dead.
