First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 2406 - Let’s Wait and See

Chapter 2406 – Let’s Wait and See

The handsome young man’s attire was simple, without the slightest embellishment, yet he would have stood out of any crowd. He had a dashing charm about him.

But in Su Yi’s eyes, he seemed quite strange, and his appearance seemed fishy. There was obviously something seriously wrong here!

“Fellow Daoist, you’re quite direct. Very well, I’ll speak directly too,” laughed the handsome young man. “I want to choose you as the Bringer of Order!”

Su Yi was stunned. “You? You’ve… chosen me?”

The handsome young man smiled. “Exactly. I understand your past and present lives, and I know how perilous your situation in the God Domain is. You’re truly surrounded by enemies on all sides.

“But in my eyes, you’re a good seedling, the perfect candidate for Bringer of Order! There’s never been another like you. People like you are truly rare!”

The handsome young man smiled. “Of course, I’m sure you don’t believe me yet. That’s to be expected, but I naturally have means of making you believe.”

“Oh?” said Su Yi. He asked with great interest, “Please, explain in further detail.”

The handsome young man gestured to himself, “I am he who presides over the mountains and rivers. The heavens instill—”

But Su Yi interrupted him before he could finish. “Skip the poetry recitations and just tell me your origins.”

This wasn’t the least bit polite, but the young man thought nothing of it. He just laughed, “I’m from the River of Destiny.”

It was a light, airy sentence, yet it had the power to shake the heart!

But Su Yi wasn’t impressed. “And?”

“On the River of Destiny, some have chosen Di E as the Bringer of Order, but I’m different. I’ve taken a shine to your potential,” said the handsome young man. “As for the others? They’re no more than passing clouds of smoke beneath the Grand Dao. They’re unworthy of my notice.”

Su Yi’s eyebrows rose. “If you keep beating around the bush, I’m just going to leave.”

The handsome young man was stunned. When he told the Angler that he was from the River of Destiny, the Angler was obviously on guard and ill at ease.

But Su Yi’s response was completely different. He wasn’t just calm. No, it seemed he didn’t take him the least bit seriously!

The comparison made the Angler’s relative inferiority readily apparent.

The young man finally started to get serious, and his smile faded. He gazed intently at Su Yi. “Earlier, I met with the Dipankara Buddha of the Western Paradise Spirit Mountains. The monk’s schemes run deep, and his heart is rotten to the core. He’s the one who told me you were on your way to the Boundless Battlefield.”

Su Yi’s eyes flashed. “That’s not at all unusual. Ol’ Dipankara has always excelled at borrowing others’ hands to kill his enemies.”

The handsome young man inclined his head. “But there’s one thing I can’t deny: he was honest with me, and he conducts himself meticulously. Even knowing he’s using you, it’s hard to go against his arrangements.”

Su Yi couldn’t help but laugh. “Ultimately, you haven’t ‘chosen me as the Bringer of Order.’ You’re just interested in my power of reincarnation and the Epoch Spark.”

The handsome young man sighed with admiration. “You and the Dipankara are both so perceptive. You’re wise, and you can see right through the heart of things.”

“It’s easy to guess, isn’t it?” Su Yi said calmly.

Why would experts from the River of Destiny descend into the God Domain?

When he thought about it, the answer was clear. There were two simple possibilities: the Battle for Order, and the Epoch Spark.

And the Battle for Order would take place after the onset of the Dark Days of Legend. It was still a while away.

Thus, anyone who’d come to the God Domain now was surely after reincarnation and the Epoch Spark.

“The masses are ignorant. Things you can realize at a glance are often answers they might never reach even after a lifetime of wracking their brains,” sighed the young man. “You’re right. I am indeed here for the power of reincarnation. It’s also the reason I’m interested in making you the Bringer of Order.”

Su Yi asked in confusion, “In that case, why not just attack me?”

“I’ve already attacked you, but that was just a little spar, throwing a stone to test the road. My goal was to test your abilities,” said the handsome young man.

Su Yi was briefly stunned. After a moment’s pondering, he realized something. “Are you the owner of the Book of Legends?”

The young man exclaimed, “You actually know about the Book of Legends!? No wonder….”

He seemed to have realized something, and the way he looked at Su Yi shifted inscrutably.

The look in Su Yi’s eyes grew strange, too. He remembered his agreement with his first incarnation’s heart devil.

They say you might search for something until your iron shoes wear out, only for it to fall into your lap when you least expect it. Now, this guy’s really delivered himself right to me!

“Why do I get the sense that there’s something a bit off about your gaze?” The handsome young man frowned and teased, “Surely you aren’t having thoughts about my Book of Legends?”

Su Yi laughed. “Hey, turnabout is fair play.”

The young man was stunned. He really is after the Book of Legends!? What gall!

He looked Su Yi up and down, then said, “I truly can’t figure out where you got the confidence to even entertain such a thought. How about… I test you and find out?”

Su Yi inclined his head. “Exactly what I had in mind.”

With that, he took a step forward.

But before he could do anything else, the young man let out a burst of laughter and vanished into thin air.

A moment later, he reappeared beneath the distant dome of heaven and said leisurely, “Since I’ve chosen you as the Bringer of Order, as an expression of sincerity, I shan’t attack you now.”

Su Yi sneered. “Are you afraid?”

But he couldn’t deny that the young man was terrifying—and incomparably vigilant.

Just as they were about to fight, murderous intent rose in his heart. He planned to use the sword sheath and cooperate with the heart devil, only for his opponent to move further away before he got the chance.

This reaction proved that his opponent wasn’t simple.

“Words alone can’t prove fear, or lack thereof. You have to watch how someone behaves,” the young man said with a laugh. “I can now say with some degree of certainty that you have no good intentions for me whatsoever, so… I’ll just have to adjust my approach.”

“How so?” asked Su Yi.

The young man said casually, “Catastrophic danger is waiting for you in the Boundless Battlefield. I’ll just wait to see whether or not you make it out alive.

“If you can’t take it, you can choose to cooperate with me. Do so, and I’ll be sure to send you coal in a blizzard and save you from disaster.

“Refuse, and the moment your strength fails you, I’ll swoop in to loot a burning house.”

He made no attempt to conceal his intentions, instead laying everything out in the open. He seemed incomparably forthright.

But the words themselves made it difficult to celebrate his honesty.

Su Yi laughed. “When the times, you’d best be careful not to ‘lose your wife and your soldiers, too.’”

“We’ll just have to wait and see,” said the young man before blurring into a beam of light and vanishing.

Su Yi watched all of this. He couldn’t help but rub his forehead.

He’d never even considered the possibility that someone so mysterious and dangerous would get involved in his expedition into the Boundless Battlefield.

“Are you afraid?” The heart devil’s voice emanated from within the sheath.

“Our prey has delivered itself right to our door. If anything, I ought to celebrate. How could I possibly be afraid?” Su Yi asked calmly.

“That’s right. That fool is ignorant of the heights of the heavens and the depths of the earth. When we get to the Boundless Battlefield, find an opportunity, and I’ll help you take care of him,” the heart devil said tyrannically. “An Eternal soul body, that’s all. He can only threaten those who’ve never seen the world.”

Su Yi had nothing to say in response. He knew that the heart devil was so eager, not to help him, but because he’d set his sights on the Book of Legends!

But this was exactly what Su Yi wanted, so he naturally wouldn’t object.

“Didn’t they say that those from the River of Destiny cannot enter the God Domain? So how did that guy manage to send a soul body here?” asked Su Yi, a bit confused.

“A soul body, that’s all. He used the power of a taboo treasure to mask his Eternal aura, avoiding the notice of the Laws,” the heart devil said casually. “But doing so is dangerous. If he reveals his aura, disaster is soon to follow. Thus, even though people like him dare travel the God Domain, they won’t dare to reveal their full strength lightly.

“That guy was quite clever. He’s using the Book of Legends to gather book souls, which he can send to act on his behalf. In doing so, he has no need to fear divine punishment. Were that not the case, I’m afraid he wouldn’t dare come to the God Domain at this juncture.”

Su Yi finally understood. Simply put, the handsome young man was an outlier. People like him were in no way typical. The young man was doing this because he had the Book of Legends.

Learning this dispelled the last of Su Yi’s misgivings. After all, if experts of the River of Destiny could come to the God Domain prior to the Dark Days of Legend, they’d represent an enormous latent threat!

Fortunately, at least for now, it seemed they weren’t coming in large numbers.

Without any further delays, Su Yi took to the skies and proceeded toward the depths of the heavens.

The Sky-Stealing Hook’s rain of light indicated a path, letting Su Yi smoothly locate the sole remaining path to the Boundless Battlefield.

Before long, both Su Yi and the hook had vanished.

The handsome young man silently came back into view. “ust as I thought. I cannot take Su Yi, the one who mastered reincarnation, for an ordinary person. He actually thinks he can get his grubby fingers on my Book of Legends? He’s obviously got reason to be confident.

His brow was furrowed, and the depths of his gaze shone with inscrutable, mysterious light. But… the mantis stalks the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind. So long as I seize an opportune moment, he cannot possibly escape my grasp!

As he pondered, he got to work.

Di E’s seal was completely useless against him. It naturally couldn’t halt his advance.

Before long, he vanished once more.

Time slipped by. Soon, fifteen minutes had passed.

A tender green sprout appeared on an unassuming little hill beneath the fractured skies. The sprout grew rapidly, then sprouted a bodhi leaf.

The leaf lit up, reflecting Su Yi and the handsome young man’s exchange

Moments later, the bodhi leaf dimmed, withered, and silently crumbled to ash, its remnants scattered to the winds.

Meanwhile, in the Western Paradise Spirit Mountains, beneath a bodhi tree.

The curtain of light appeared before the seated Dipankara Buddha. It too reflected Su Yi and the handsome young man’s meeting.

There was no sound, but the Dipankara Buddha watched with the utmost seriousness. After a while, he seemed to understand.

“Then we’ll just have to see which ‘fisherman’ reaps the benefits in the end.”
